Starting school as an old fart - Need a laptop!

I've been out of the game for ages and don't know... anything about new tech.
The base requirements for my computer are at the bottom of this post.
I plan on going much larger than the base for the main SSD and RAM (32GB)
15" would be on the list as I want a full num pad integrated with the keyboard.
I have a $1000 grant towards it, and have no issue shelling out some extra to get something that will be solid for a few years.

Purchase date plans are for cyber weekend, if my funding comes through in time.

What are decent brands / purchase locations to pick something up these days? The last time I did a built it was a a Q6600 and I grabbed everything from NCIX, so you can imagine I'm a tad rusty.

Thanks for any input!

I don't have any suggestions but just a comment. I like buying Dell laptops straight from Dell because their keyboards are US keyboards and not the bilingual keyboards. I hate the bilingual keyboards but that's a personal preference.

The laptops are shipped out from the US (which is probably why they are EN keyboards). So the laptop could take like 2 weeks to get to you (like, put in the order, 1 week later it's shipped out, receive 1 week later).

If I may rephrase that :)

What program?

What apps will you be running?

I f your in arts. for example you could go with a T420 or something of ebay for $<150.

USB 3.0+. That's an external interface that only affects data transfer. They care about your data transfer rates?

Only consumer notebooks come with bilingual keyboards

If you buy a business notebook from Lenovo, HP etc, they are US Keyboards. With a bilingual option.
