Statistics Canada chart shows less deaths in Sept 2020 than in past 5 years

So less Canadians died during week 38 of 2020 than in each of the previous 5 years. Deaths caused all types of reasons.

Based on that single graph and nothing else, I would say it means nothing. I would be surprised if that number held up when the next update is published, seeing as how it's the last data point on the graph for 2020, and it's not unusual for the government to go back and update previously published numbers as more data comes in.

And considering that we didn't really see a climb in COVID cases until the end of September, and hospitalizations lags cases, and deaths lag hospitalizations (you get sick first, then you go to the hospital, where you might die in days or even weeks later), it means even less to our "current state". Back at the end of September, people (and governments) were concerned, but not nearly at the state we are currently.
