Peterbuilt is already testing them in the US . I think one just ran from LA to Jacksonville FL for the first time last week. It has a human driver behind the wheel as backup. The automation is currently only on the interstate. The human driver has to get the truck on/off the interstate

One of these things is actually possible in the foreseeable future and it isn't replacing highways with giant conveyor belts. Automated transport is coming and society will be better for it.
