Store Brand vs. Brand Name Products
Help us RFDers save some money, without regretting being frugal!
Pretty much as the title says... What store branded products impressed you, or were acceptable for the price? Which ones were disappointing, and not worthy of saving a few cents for? What products would you never consider subbing out for?
I've heard that many store branded items can just be re-branded brand name products, though I don't know of any on the top of my head. Feel free to share those too!
A few that come to mind at this very moment; though I only really shop at RCSS/No Frills these days:
Impressed/acceptable:
- PC products are generally quite good (cheese, chips, salad products, tortillas, juice, etc.)
- No name brand staple ingredients (i.e. pasta, canned vegetables, flour)
- Compliments French fries
- Vitamins - who knows if they do anything, anyway?
Disappointing:
- No name ketchup - blegh, tastes like canned tomato soup
- No name flavoured tuna
- No name toilet paper - would rather wipe with industrial 0.5 ply
- No name cream cheese - has a weird plastic consistency
- No name cheese - eh, it's so-so; very wet and smells a little weird; acceptable if super cheap
- Any boxed mac & cheese that isn't PC or Kraft
- Old Mill bagels suck compared to Dempster's; but acceptable if super cheap
As an aside, I'm curious to hear about knock-off Oreos... are those ever worth it?
