strange tapping sound from the roof

There is a tapping sound that sounds like its coming from the roof of my house.
Its hard to pin point the exact spot, but it appears to be from vicinity of the chimney & square vent (as shown in the photos).

Does anyone know if this is a common problem (i mean a tapping sound), and would it be from some flap or something inside the vent that is loose?

Its the square bathroom vent which is where the bathroom fan vents to. It has a flap that opens when there is airflow from the fan. It can also flap if there's strong wind. Typically normal.

Is it normal to have open fasteners on the vent flanges like that? Seems like that's intentionally creating a future leak.

Looks like someone put 2 nails on the roof shingles by the vent pipe, just got to watch that.
