Subaru Cash Bonus vs Unhaggle

I understand it is difficult to get a serious discount on a new Subaru. I now have noticed that Subaru is clearing out 2020 models. For example, Forester and Outback come with a $2000 cash bonus plus a $500 or $1000 holiday bonus, even for the base models.

Would it be possible to that price further with Unhaggle, when I'm happy with the base version?

Is it better to wait until January?

I once negotiated on a car (brand new) from a brand that rarely gives discounts. I told them there was 6 more of their dealerships around the GTA and I am sure one of them will give me the price I wanted.

I left 30 minutes later with a bill of sale with no bogus additional fees (admin, etching etc) and was able to get the car at “cost”.

Don’t be afraid to assert yourself when you go into a dealership. I’ve brokered maybe 6 dozen deals in the past 3 years (only for friends and family) and have never had those I’ve helped on car deals (used or brand new) leave unhappy.

Dealership language is pretty easy to understand.

Comes down to research. Just have to know exactly what model and trim you want, and how much you are willing to pay (within reason) and find a dealership that'll play ball.

Yes. You can get discounts on Subaru vehicles despite what the salesperson will tell you or rfd posters. Not sure if you are really in whitehorse but it all depends on where you are located. IE; in gta, using unhaggle, there are dealers that will call you the minute you run your free report. The dealer will get kick backs from unhaggle, they are required to contact you to keep good standing with unhaggle and give you a good deal, not the best deal. unhaggle and all these other services are for folks that do not have the time or cannot put in the effort for whatever reason to give you a good price. Never the best price. That's where your own hard work comes in to play. Time of year never has anything to do with getting the best possible deal from my opinion.

Well, I only have one dealership within several days drive, and they known it. :-)

I would, however, consider flying elseplace to pick up the vehicle, if the deal was that much better.

You can use that as leverage when you go to your dealership.

Let them know you don’t mind going to the nearest town to get the deal done, flair it up as a nice “quick getaway/road trip in a new car experience”

Let them know additionally it would be a shame to take your business out of town also.
On a Subaru I’ll let you know one thing... I don’t care where you live, don’t settle for less than a $1600-2000 discount ONTOP of any cash or financing/leasing incentives. You can go beyond $2000 but it depends how hard you want to work.

Honestly just make whatever reasonable offer you want, sometimes there’s no apparent logic to what they will accept.

Since you're so limited with dealerships, how is the after sales service/support?

And since you're probably one of the few that could really use AWD (if you do indeed live in Whitehorse), not all Subaru's AWD systems are created equal.

I don't know. I've never had a Subaru.

Most of it is pretty much straight forward as with other cars but parts and supplies might be harder to get if no one else has a Subaru in you neck of the woods, it’s a lot easier to maintain than say a car with a Haldex system but if no mechanic knows the quirks of a Subaru where you live it might be harder to diagnose problems if any should arise.

Might be better to buy a brand that is more common in your area but that is not to say Subaru is a bad choice.

Where abouts do you have to go from Whitehorse to a dealer? I am in Calgary and recently bought a 2020 Forester Sport in Red Deer. The dealership there is superb and I have a great sales guy who I can recommend. I paid $3500 less for the same car vs buying in Calgary.

Subaru has a *huge* marketshare here in the Yukon. :-) I see more Crosstreks alone than all Hondas taken together. Plus Foresters and Outbacks. Even more Imprezas then makes sense given their low ground clearance.

We have a Subaru (&Kia) dealer in Whitehorse. So I'll start there. But for $3k I'd go to Red Deer. Combined with a Costco or Ikea run, the trip pays for itself, especially since I'm sitting on a bunch of hotel points.

Ryan King at Scott Subaru ([email protected]) is the guy I dealt with. I did pretty much everything over email. I asked for what I wanted and within 30 minutes he had a quote in my inbox with the discounts already on there, so can't hurt to try reaching out right away to find out. Can tell him Dmitri from Calgary referred you. That dealer is highly rated, and I can see why.

When I originally read your post I thought you didn't have any dealers, but now that you mention it, I remember that you do, I even remember exactly where it is. I was up in Whitehorse in January for my birthday, little vacation with the wife before all this Corona crap hit.
