Suggested Insurance companies - Life, Home, Auto, Travel?

I'd like to hear some suggestions from people who have had good experiences with their insurance companies. Any of the main ones would be appreciated. Life, Home, Auto, Travel, etc.

These suggestions don't need to be specifically directed to me. If you've had a good experience regarding your boat, or identity theft, or mortgage insurance. It would be great to hear too.

Personally, I have both home and car insurance with Belair Direct. I'm in southern ontario. Married, with young kids. I've never had to use Belair Direct for anything so far. So I can't say whether it's been a good experience or not. Right now, it feels about time to shop around and see what I may be over paying for.

The problem you are going to run into with this is that you really don't know the insurance company until it comes time to claim. Additionally, it also depends on the circumstance and claim. That cheaper policy may end up being more expensive if they don't help you when it comes time to claim, but that doesn't necessarily mean the more expensive one is better too.

Each insurance company sells different kind of products with different needs in mind. Policies will also be priced accordingly. And even if the insurance company has made a good product, you are then dependent on your broker to sell you the right kind of policy.

For Life insurance, all I can say is avoid bank mortgage ones, credit balance insurance, and "no-medical" or "instant approval" life insurance. These products tend to be very expensive and not worth your time.

I have my home and car insurance with TD Insurance. Their contact centre has been a disaster during the pandemic - you could spend hours trying to reach them. At the same time, in the past they were good in paying claims. I had to file a car insurance claim twice. The first time it was a no-fault claim where somebody hit my car while making a u-turn and, secondly, a small glass damage from a truck transporting gravel. Both claims have been paid fairly and my premiums did not go up. I hope that helps.
