Suggestions for stop motion camera starter

Welcome any suggestions for a starter camera for stop motion. This would be for teenage kids.

Prefer to keep it under $500 if possible.

Also, any suggestions for which software to use.

Thanks.

My only experience is with Dragonframe and it's really easy to use. Can't say if it is the cheapest or best though

I guess you already have a super heavy & stable tripod? If not, you should put some budget into it.

Also, I'll think of the lighting equipment first. A stop motion with variant lights will be a mess (ie: natural light)

Don't forget the memory card, a trigger remote or cable to not shake the camera. With the remaining budget, get the cheapest used DSLR you can find, like a Nikon D3200 that works flawlessly through the viewfinder (the live view is a mess).

Try Lumix cameras. Software is built in to the camera on some models.

Hi. 😀
