Switch to RBC and get the Latest iPad ($430 + Tax value)

Deal Link:
Expiry:
December 20, 2021
Open an eligible RBC bank account by December 20, 2021 and get the Latest iPad.
You will be able to select the latest 10.2” iPad Wi-Fi 64GB (9th Generation) in your choice of Silver or Space Grey colour. The value of this iPad is ~$480 ($429 + Tax).

NB: The opened checking account must remain in effect at least until February 28, 2023

You can open RBC Signature No Limit Banking with a $16 monthly fee, get a free CC (with this plan you are eligible for $39 rebate on CC) and open a DI investment account. This way you can reduce the monthly account fee to $10.
So your cost for the next 14 months (assuming you will open the account by Dec 20, 2021 and you close it or downgraded by February 28, 2023) will be $140 for an iPad value of $480. This is %70 discount.

Can someone explain to me why this wouldn't be a decent deal?

$16 x 12 = 192

seems like you are getting the ipad for half price, no?

The Ad says get it at "no cost". $192 still a big cost, well actually 16x14mos = 224.

There's no option to completely waive the monthly fee with RBC, right? With my BMO account, I have their highest end plan and it's free with a minimum $7k balance.

Can't you just lower the monthly fee to $4?

SadLy it is, but for the many of us who did it are happy Face With Tears Of Joy. Though it was a better T&C back in 2018 for the iPad offer which didn't require too much conditions to get one. Some got it at 16x10mos, which they proly realized and so they changed it to at least 14mos. Grinning Face With Smiling Eyes

I agree with you, but even with the other banks you need to keep a minimum balance of 4K, 5K or 6K to wave the fees. So, those money are kind of locked, otherwise you will be charged with the monthly fee if the balance is not maintained even for a single day. Instead you can put them into a GIC or invest them into high dividend stocks.

This term seems unethical where they can get you to join and then claw the offer away.

Nothing wrong with this deal other than the (bank's) misleading headline.
If you're in the market for an iPad, why not save $200?
