So the market always goes up. But the Nikkei peaked in the 90s and never got back up there. It might be the exception, but how do we know it's not foreshadowing the future?What makes all the other indices different compared to the Nikkei? Or vice-versa?

I have this $10,000 index fund for two years now and it is valued at around $12,500 now. if i sell it, it means 25% gain in two years, is it a good idea to sell it?and if I dont put more money in this index fund, the only way to for me to make money off this, is to sell it?
