On January 3 this year I made my last mortgage payment. I was just at the bank asking for a discharge letter and they told I have to pay a discharge fee. I looked it up and it looks like it's $200 (I'm with TD). Is there a way to get out of it?Thanks

My parents are in their 80s, still living in their house bought in 1974. It was mortgaged back then, refinanced a few times with different lenders, and the mortgage was fully paid off decades ago. Just to make sure there are no surprises on title while they are still capable of dealing with any prob...

On a sale of our property, our lawyer informed us that DUCA does not actually process the discharge of their mortgage on the title, but only "prepares the discharge statement and authorization". As a result, DUCA is charging us $300 for doing their part and our lawyer is charging us $155 +...

I'm looking at a TD mortgage and we have a pretty good offer for the first 5 year team. But I've read that they are all collateral charge mortgages and the posts here on rfd come with a lot of grief and worrying about the extra 'fees' that you'll have to pay if you want to leave. When should I worry...

I had a friend with a mortgage that was just about to be paid off and he asked if there is anything he needs to watch out for. I thought that was an interesting question, as I assumed there wouldn't really be anything but from digging into it apparently some things need to be considered. This is for...

Hello! I'm new to the forums - just joined today! I'm selling my condo in Montreal and want to make sure I pay as little as I can in legal fees. I have had a mortgage with ING Direct for 2.5 and we have now decided to sell our existing home and build a new one. To my shock, ING Direct do not provide mortgages for 'new'...
