... in 8 years and dust was just caked on. I was hoping the thing would last 15 to 20 years....but now I'm faced with whether to try to repair or replace the thing. Twelve years seems like it's not unreasonable to replace, but could have lasted longer. What do you guys think?

Our ancient tube light holder is broken. Instead of just replacing it with an identical one, is there a newer/LED version that might work better? The light sits in our basement, is 4ft long, and has a broken holder, no idea if the rest of the fixture (4ft) is working fine at all.
