Tangerine Mastercard - The Numbers have scratched off

I have one of the new credit cards without the upraised numbers. Instead, the card number is printed on the back on the flat surface. But I just noticed that the act of slipping the card in and out of my wallet has caused the numbers to be scratched off making it unreadable. Is this a common problem with these new cards? I might have to ask for a new card every few months at this rate.

My Tangerine World Mastercard arrived with some of the numbers already rubbed off. Luckily, they were the last four numbers, which you can see when you log in. I jotted down the rest to make sure I could do online purchases and and make bill payments from other banks.

Is this design issue or manufacturing QA issue?

It's a security feature - the number erases itself after reading ;-)

Some cards (Apple Card in the US, Vivid in EU) are numberless by design.

I would just write them down somewhere (like a notebook with all my banking details, or a digital equivalent). There's no actual need to be able to read the numbers on the card itself.

Maybe buy some cheap clear nail polish and paste it over the numbers?

Tangerine is different because they don't display your middle eight credit card digits in your account. So if those disappear from your card, you have no way to figure out what they are. Some goes for your expiry and CVC numbers.

Doesn’t everyone store their credit card numbers in their password manager? So you can auto-fill them when you buy stuff online?

Supposedly with the world card there were some manufacturing defects which led to the numbers and other decals on the card to wipe off. If your card is suffering from this issue call up Tangerine to ask for a replacement. They claimed to have fixed it.

It's also possible that your wallet is dirty and debris is scratching the card up. This is especially the case with wallets that press all the cards together. Try a new wallet or clean yours. Personally I've had no issue with my card.

I store mine in a password manager but I think we're the exception, less the standard.

I do not have a password manager per say but I got a photocopy of every card. So if I somehow loose the card/get stolen I can still call them and have the card number

Wait, you don't have a password manager at all? How do you remember your passwords? Mine all look something like this, there's no way I could remember them all: [email protected]

Many people do, but not everyone. And, unfortunately, few people even use password managers.

In any case, Tangerine should be able to make a card whose numbers don't rub off.

People who don't use password managers tend to:

• Try to memorize all their passwords. This is somewhat doable for people with good memories. But it encourages you to use simple, crackable passwords.

• Write their passwords on sticky notes or scraps of paper. This allows you to use longer, more complex passwords. But if someone finds your notes, you're screwed.

• Reuse their passwords with small variations. Like correcthorsebatterystaple58 and correcthorsebatterystaple692. If someone steals one of your passwords—which they will—the others are easy to crack.

• Reuse their passwords wholesale. This is the worst and probably the most common practice. If someone steals one of your passwords—which they will—they can easily break into any account you've where you've used the same password.

I mean my phone and my laptop have have auto filling for password, is that considered password manager? Those are personnal devices. When I use my work computer I must log in manually, let's say to my amazon account to print return labels.

Yeah most web browsers now have password managers built in. Mac OS has it built into the operating system itself

If someone can crack the model on my cell phone lock screen they can basically access all my banking account to password manager is not more secure than the other methods you mentions
