Haven't had any offers from them in a long while, so I moved everything to a different account. Got the offer - transferred some back.

Transferred the funds out of the Tang. savings accounts on the last day of previous interest rate promotion and into the Tang. chequing account. Still haven't gotten their current offer, so withdrew today all the funds from Tang. and deposited it into new account with EQ.

Did not receive the offer. Called in, they told me that the 0.1% was the best they could do, asked to speak to a supervisor who applied the promo to my account right away.

You must have talked to a nice CSR. I called & asked to talk to a supervisor. But the CSR just said no.

EQ rates dropping this week.

Got an email from EQ today (subject "Interest rate updates and great GIC rates" so of course it's about a drop), regular Savings rate dropping from 1.50% to 1.25% on Fri Apr 16. They mention that 3mo GIC (non-registered, i.e. outside TFSA or RSP) can be locked in at 1.50% for "a limited time". I note their website says 1.30% so I'm not sure they're implementing that. I suspect they mention 3mo specifically because it's the obvious alternative to Savings (locking in until mid July isn't too bad).

They also say the TFSA and RSP rate will change on May 26 (much later), from 2.30% to 1.25%. And a commitment to keep the TFSA and RSP 3mo GICs at 2.30% until May 26. I was actually expecting the GICs to drop in late Mar, when all that 2021 TFSA money was maturing out of 3mo GICs. Credit to them that we got 2 shots at the great 3mo GIC (Jan and Apr, 2.50% and 2.30% respectively).

As discussed upthread, that 1.50% from Tangerine isn't looking so bad now eh? :) or :( as you prefer.

Did a chat with EQ, they said the 3mo for 1.50% GIC will be available Apr 16 but not before. Makes no sense but it is what it is.

Now EQ has dropped (was announced as Fri Apr 16). Advertised rate now 1.25%. 3mo GIC has jumped up to 1.50%, others are lower (6mo=1.30%, 9mo=1.25%, 12/15/24/27mo=1.30%, then up a little each year though Oaken still better).

Tangerine's guaranteed 1.50% (if you got the offer) is looking better. Without the Tangerine offer, I guess 3mo GIC at EQ is good at 1.50%. Wonder where interest rates will be in mid-July when 3mo GICs bought today will mature.
