Tangerine World Mastercard Category changes timeline

Q to those with longer experience with this card: I signed up for this card a month ago, and of course at the time picked three categories. Now that my first statement has generated, I have the option to change the categories. I'm curious though -- if I do this:

  • Does the change take effect immediately? and
  • How long until I can change the categories again? I thought it was every 30 days, but according to the Cardholder Agreement it's 90 days until you can change it again after that... ?
  • If you change your categories mid-statement period, I guess it would mean you could technically see up to 6 categories listed as getting 2% (at least partially) on the next statement? ie.. if I treat my 3rd category open as a floater to have on the ready to switch to something else just prior to an infrequent/large purchase in a category like home improvement, furniture, or hotel.

Thanks! -N

1) Takes effect on starting on your next statement period.

2) From my recollection, every 90 days sounds about right. I think you can technically "change" it before then but it doesn't actually take effect until after the 90 day waiting period.

3) This won't work - see #1.

Tangerine has already anticipated your workarounds. Just go to the Rewards section of your online account. All the information is outlined there.

With a 90 day 'lock in" after changing categories, I guess I just have to think long and hard about changes, and anticipated expendatures. It's just interesting that you can change them 30 days after initial activation (or I guess ~60, since it takes effect on the next statement), but then 90 days thereafter.

Thanks all.
