[TD Bank] New Chequing Account $300 offer

Regular new user $300 offer. Posting here since this is not directly visible on TD website (at least for me). Also noticed a flyer in branch today.

DP: I opened the account in mid Sep and got the bonus pretty easily and quickly in late Oct. Just closed the account today as I don't want to maintain the minimum balance for fee waiver.

  1. Start by opening a TD Unlimited Chequing Account or a TD All-Inclusive Banking Plan between February 10, 2020 and April 30, 20201
  2. Set up and complete a transaction through any two of the following services with your new TD chequing account by June 25, 20201
    (i) Set up a Recurring Direct Deposit from their employer, pension provider or the Government with the first deposit posted to the New Account before June 25, 2020. The Direct Deposit must occur either weekly, biweekly, monthly or twice per month;
    (ii) Make an Online Bill Payment through EasyWeb or the TD app, minimum $50 before June 25, 2020;
    (iii) Set up a Recurring Pre-Authorized Debit, minimum $50 with the first pre-authorized debit posted to the New Account before June 25, 2020. Pre-authorized Debit must occur either weekly, biweekly, monthly or twice per month.

The following Individuals are not eligible for the $300 cash offer:

(i) Already have a TD chequing account or Youth Account or had either one of these accounts that was closed on or after February 10, 2019; or
(ii) Received any chequing account offer from TD in 2017, 2018, 2019; or
(iii) Are TD staff members or joint with a TD staff member,

Good to see they're not going like other big 5 and requiring account to be open a set period.

Wait until they devalue their service or add more fee

They are more like Rogers now. Promotion-> increase fee->increase fee again

I personally open the account, get the fee waiver, get the $300, and close out. As long as you can avoid monthly fee you're set.

They have never changed the minimum deposit to waive the monthly fee. For the services included in the all inclusive package, I think it's a good deal

I guess it's worth it to open a chequing acct and stick $4000 in there until the $300 clears?

Thanks OP.

Looks like a deal.

Says they will deposit the $300 within 12 weeks of required conditions having been met.

So somewhere around $250 without the min deposit.

cheers

The $300 cash offer is available to Canadian residents that do not have an existing TD chequing account, that are the age of majority at time of account opening in their province or territory who:
(a) Open a TD All-Inclusive Banking Plan or a TD Unlimited Chequing Account between February 10, 2020 and April 30, 2020 (the “New Account”), and
(b) Complete any two of the following with the New Account:
(i) Set up a Recurring Direct Deposit from their employer, pension provider or the Government with the first deposit posted to the New Account before June 25, 2020. The Direct Deposit must occur either weekly, biweekly, monthly or twice per month;
(ii) Make an Online Bill Payment through EasyWeb or the TD app, minimum $50 before June 25, 2020;
(iii) Set up a Recurring Pre-Authorized Debit, minimum $50 with the first pre-authorized debit posted to the New Account before June 25, 2020. Pre-authorized Debit must occur either weekly, biweekly, monthly or twice per month.
Whether or not a Recurring Direct Deposit is acceptable for this offer is subject to our approval.

For any New Account that is a joint account, at least one account holder on the New Account must meet the eligibility requirements. Limit of one $300 cash offer per customer per New Account. The New Account must still be open, in good standing, with all conditions continuing to be met when the $300 is deposited to the New Account. The monthly fee for the New Account cannot have been waived or rebated for any reason, other than maintaining the minimum monthly balance or receiving a seniors' rebate, and the type of account cannot have changed, before the $300 is deposited to the New Account. The $300 will be deposited to the New Account within 12 weeks after all conditions have been met. We can change, extend or withdraw the $300 cash offer at any time, and it cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer or discount for the same product, except the New to Canada Banking Package. All amounts are in Canadian dollars unless otherwise noted. Other conditions may apply.

Additional tips (assuming things are the same since ~September 2019 when I did this):
  • Open your account online (rather than at a branch) -- during the process, TD will offer you an opportunity to fund the account (if I remember correctly, up to $1000 from an existing non-TD bank account, or up to $300 from a non-TD credit card). By choosing the CC, TD will give you $5 (apparently to cover any fees), but from my experience it's treated as a purchase transaction, not a cash advance (so no fees). I used a Rogers WE MC to get 1.75% cashback on $300. Use whatever makes sense for you. In my case, $5 + 1.75% of $300 netted an additional $10.25.
  • In addition to the chequing account, you may want to open a TD savings account which allows a single withdrawal per month -- this will facilitate closing out the account and pulling the funds. By opening this account, you'll also have the opportunity to fund it as above (i.e. get an additional $5 plus whatever benefit you get from your credit card).
  • Consider your exit strategy early (if you don't plan to remain a TD client). If you don't want to incur monthly fees, you need to make sure you can fund the account (I think you need a minimum of $4000 balance?) for the entire month (from the day of opening, right until the day you choose to close). I've heard people getting fees waived, but I found it best to cover your bases.
I basically got $310 out of this from TD and closed out everything within about 2 months. Plus $10.50 from Rogers WE MC based on 1.75%.

Another data point to this offer, its a hard pull on equifax, I was also able to apply for a credit card 2 months later and they used that same hard pull to approve the card, I got the $300 within 30 days kept the account for a few months then made the balance $0 called in and had them cancel it over the phone no branch visit with dirty looks given by the CSR required ;)

So I have a saving account, TFSA, and RRSP with TD on top of the chequeing account. Can I close just the chequeing account now and be qualified the next time they offer the $300, or do I have to literally close all my other accounts? Thanks

I have a hard time understanding this point:
(ii) Received any chequing account offer from TD in 2017, 2018, 2019;

Does it mean that its excluding people that actually went trough and received a previous offer in those years? (actually received the cash back)

I did the Samsung TV offer way back in 2016. I think I might be elligible this time?
