🏆 This investment deal is drawing a lot of attention for its generous bonus structure, though some terms are unclear.
💰 The core offer includes a $50 reward and a 10% match on recurring deposits, up to a $2,500 maximum. Members widely interpret this as a $2,500 bonus on $25,000 deposited, not $250.
⚠️ There is confusion due to vague terms and inconsistent information from customer service, especially regarding initial funding sources and PAD setup.
📅 Funds contributed via PAD from August 2025 to March 2026 are slated for payout by April 30, 2026, allowing for earlier access to the bonus.
🛡️ Members suggest parking funds in low-risk options like TD money market mutual funds (e.g., TDB2913) or TD ETFs (e.g., TCSH, TEQT) to earn interest while waiting for the bonus.

I opened the account in the branch and asked the advisor to enter the promo code.EdisonL299 wrote: ↑ Did you set up everything by yourself online or visit a branch and ask a financial advisor to set up for you?
Was told that it is there, but the rep on the phone couldn't confirm it so I asked them to do that again after which only received the email.
sorry about that, I am anxious myself about the initial $1000 I deposited before the email so I guess it is fairadamtheman wrote: ↑ LOL you're about to set off major anxiety on here for anyone who didn't get that e-mail.

the thing that makes it worse is the rep on the phone said if you don''t do the $1000 in the first 30 days of the account opening, the PAD match won't be happening.

So can I make monthly deposit through PAD until March 2026 in the total amount of 25k and then once I get the 10% bonus in April, withdraw everything?

there's no point in the TC that says otherwise and as long as you get the payment, I don't think they would have a way to take it back.

Appreciate your due diligence! So what will be the penalty for $50 over contribution for 4 months? Intentional over contribution can carry a larger penalty - but it’s probably worth it for a small amountdemzie wrote: ↑ Alright everyone. As promised, I called TD through the app and still ended up waiting for 40+ minutes, yikes! The mystery surrounding changing the PAD is over. The agent first tried to look for the answer and couldn't find anything specific. Then he told he'd reach out to his supervisor and after about 5 minutes of wait, he was able to provide me with answer.
The question I asked was: Can I setup a $50 monthly contribution into a TFSA and then increase it to 5k monthly come January 2026? I even explained why I'm doing this, I explained that I'll be withdrawing from my TFSA at another broker so the TFSA limit can be "reset".
The rep confirmed after speaking to supervisor the following: You will still be eligible for the 10% match because they're calculating the match based on funds received through PAD. So at the end of the promo (April or Sep 2026 - there are two periods), the system will look at how many funds came in through PAD and match 10%.
The only caveat they said is that you cannot change the PAD from one account to another. For example, you have PAD setup for your Cash account. Come Jan 2026, you cannot stop it for Cash and start it for TFSA. The PAD can be increased provided it's for the same account.
This was my main concern and I called to get this verified and even recorded the call, lol. I hope you all find this helpful - I know a lot of people including myself had this question.
EDIT: When I said PAD, i'm referring to auto contributions, ie. PAD/MCP.

According AI, it's $5 in total penalty for the four months ($50x4). However, I'm not aware of larger penalty for intentional over contribution.

"There’s a special anti-avoidance rule in the Tax Act that states that any income or gain arising from a deliberate TFSA overcontribution is considered to be an “advantage,” and is taxed at 100 per cent. Thus, making a deliberate TFSA overcontribution is never a good idea"
"Not only would you be taxed 1% on the excess contribution, but also the entire gain would be considered to be the advantage, and all of it would go back to the CRA as tax. Therefore
you lose all your gain
you lose 1% on the excess contribution
you cannot use the loss as a capital loss to offset future gains
you are now under the CRA spotlight for god knows how long."

As a former TD DI customer I think I recall there being a clause saying it could take 3 months to cancel your PAD so also bake that in. You can still withdrawal the money you have in the account just be aware that your PAD account should still be funded as they may not be able to close your account until the PAD gets cancelled.finpudding wrote: ↑ So can I make monthly deposit through PAD until March 2026 in the total amount of 25k and then once I get the 10% bonus in April, withdraw everything?

LOL I just called into TD and got them to re-register my account for the promo, and I got the confirmation email right away.
What have you done @pythoff ????? Poor TD reps. He confirmed the $1,000 deposit I already put in counts for the promo.

FWIW I've never received any sort of confirmation email for previous TDDI promo and have always been paid out as expected.
That being said, I've always only signed up online, and not via a rep over the phone. Perhaps the trigger for the email is mainly if applied/signed up via agent?

Yup. If CRA dug into the T&C of the TD offer, they could possibly argue that the entire $2500 bonus was an "advantage" gained by the deliberate TFSA overcontribution. i.e. The bonus wouldn't have been paid without the overcontribution. Then they could charge a 100% tax on the $2500 bonus (plus any investment gains on the overcontribution). CRA probably wouldn't go that far, but it's a risk to the TFSA overcontribution strategy. Just as easy to open a non-registered account and enjoy a tax-free $2500 without drawing the attention of the CRA (but not gaining $2500 of TFSA room).Enforcer22 wrote: ↑ "There’s a special anti-avoidance rule in the Tax Act that states that any income or gain arising from a deliberate TFSA overcontribution is considered to be an “advantage,” and is taxed at 100 per cent. Same experience for me and got the confirmation email after a call. I opened the account online.adamtheman wrote: ↑LOL I just called into TD and got them to re-register my account for the promo, and I got the confirmation email right away.

I think it's fine. I'm also doing the deposit $500 get $100 promo from last month (code EASYSTART), and didn't get a confirmation email at all. But the rep confirmed that I'm enrolled. He agreed the confirmation email seems like a hit and miss situation.
sorry about that TDadamtheman wrote: ↑ LOL I just called into TD and got them to re-register my account for the promo, and I got the confirmation email right away.

hope they enjoyed another waive of concerned customers about this.
same happened to me about the $1000 deposit: they said it would count even if it was done before the promo code activation.
