"How to Qualify for the $50 Reward:

1. Open a new Account(s) using the promo code SUMMER2025 or ETE2025 by September 30, 2025."

Has T&C changed or already 2 different promo codes since the beginning. Can't recall.
RFD Summary
🏆 This investment deal is drawing a lot of attention for its generous bonus structure, though some terms are unclear.

💰 The core offer includes a $50 reward and a 10% match on recurring deposits, up to a $2,500 maximum. Members widely interpret this as a $2,500 bonus on $25,000 deposited, not $250.

⚠️ There is confusion due to vague terms and inconsistent information from customer service, especially regarding initial funding sources and PAD setup.

📅 Funds contributed via PAD from August 2025 to March 2026 are slated for payout by April 30, 2026, allowing for earlier access to the bonus.

🛡️ Members suggest parking funds in low-risk options like TD money market mutual funds (e.g., TDB2913) or TD ETFs (e.g., TCSH, TEQT) to earn interest while waiting for the bonus.

b33zlebub wrote: Lucky you. If I was in this situation, I would (assuming not going to open TD bank accounts):

1. Open up a TDDI TSFA (prefer the flexibility and ease to fund compared to EasyTrade).
2. Deposit $1,000 in account (can be done via bill pay or if need be, go to a bricks and mortar TD branch and deposit cash/cheque).
3. Set up $5000 x 5 PAD from CIBC account. Call in to set up.
4. Call in to cancel PAD in the 6th month.

You will get an additional $2,500 match + $50 bonus in your TFSA by the end of April 30, 2026.

How you invest your TFSA funds is your decision.
Thank you for the detailed explanation!

For EasyTrade, you can buy TCSH (Similar to CASH.TO or ZMMK)
Thanks.

How about teqt or tgro?

Je ne sais pas pourquoi ils auraient un deuxième code comme « ETE2025 » pour cette promotion d'été.

JUnit wrote: Yup. If CRA dug into the T&C of the TD offer, they could possibly argue that the entire $2500 bonus was an "advantage" gained by the deliberate TFSA overcontribution. i.e. The bonus wouldn't have been paid without the overcontribution. Then they could charge a 100% tax on the $2500 bonus (plus any investment gains on the overcontribution). CRA probably wouldn't go that far, but it's a risk to the TFSA overcontribution strategy.
redder2 wrote: Actually the CRA explicitly allows these promotions:

Deliberate over contributions are defined here too:

3.28 Paragraph (c) of the definition of advantage includes a benefit that is income or a capital gain that is reasonably attributable, directly or indirectly, to any of the following:
...
c. a deliberate over-contribution to a TFSA (that is, a contribution intentionally made by a TFSA holder in excess of their TFSA contribution limit, generally with a view to generating a rate of return sufficient to outweigh the cost of the 1% TFSA over-contribution tax)
Good discussion. I strongly believe it's possible to do it without any court realistically seeing it as a "deliberate over-contribution" as defined above:

- open a new TFSA
- (over) contribute the initial $1000
- (over) contribute 4 monthly payments of $50 each. Keep the whole $1200 in cash.
- withdraw enough of your other TFSA in 2025 to have sufficient space for the promo ($26K - 2026 extra space).
- self-report the over-contribution and pay the tax of $45. Meanwhile, I'm claiming this was not a deliberate over-contribution as the rate of return did not exceed the penalty. The return was 0% (cash) + $20 (if we include the 10% on the $200).

There is no way the CRA can argue that these actions is what brought me $2500 bonus at the end. Not only they'd have to prove my intent to follow some sophisticated plan (without it, the overcontribution is also not deliberate), I doubt there is any precedent when gains in a future tax year from an additional investment are used against the taxpayer who made a minor violation in a prior tax year. That would be quite bizarre.

I wish the CRA enforced their own rules, but in fact they fail to deal with much bigger tax avoidance, such as when Wealthsimple/Moomoo/Questrade/(Webull?) are paying cashback on RRSP accounts into a non-registered account, effectively avoiding tax on "withdawal" of RRSP bonuses (sometimes tens of thousand dollars). That is a very obvious RRSP advantage, and still we don't hear of anything done about that for years. Yet.

Better still, "someone" created TD Direct Investing and TD Easy Trade 2025 Summer Offer (the “Offer”) when he took TDDI up on it Smiling Face With Open Mouth

And that "someone" is happy to share it with all's y'alls.

I’ve tried three times on my end to open a TD EasyTrade Cash Account to take advantage of this offer, and each time I’ve faced the exact same error message at the end of the application process:
"We're sorry, but you cannot continue your application online. Error #109
We're sorry, TD EasyTrade is unable to complete your account application based on the information provided.
You may be eligible to open a TD Direct Investing account at a TD branch or with an Investment Representative over the phone. Find out more at TD Direct Investing.
"

I previously called customer service, and they escalated my profile, but I never received an update.
I called again today, and the only advice I got was to visit a branch.

The customer service I’ve received has been completely unhelpful and even haughty, showing no compassion, no genuine attempt to resolve the issue, and giving me the feeling they just wanted to end the call as quickly as possible.
So far, this has been the worst experience I’ve ever had with a bank.
If anyone has faced the same issue I’m currently experiencing, please feel free to share your experience, either here or via private message.

Thank you!

I hope this thing is the real deal. Depositing $3600 for 7 months starting September 1st so I get a full payout April 30th. If they renege on the terms, we need to make a stink with Wealthsimple funding our legal case lmao.

Have you apply via TD EasyTrade app or website? Last time I applied via the website got the same error and no way to bypass that. Couple days later I changed to apply via TD EasyTrade app it worked :) if you cannot apply TD ET both ways you should try to apply TD Direct Investing. Because TD EasyTrade cannot apply at branch

Not Wealthsimple. They are known to change their own offer T&Cs more often than anybody else. Also, their lawyers suck, their promos are usually contradicting some CRA rules, and they can get their clients into trouble if the CRA decides to look into that (plus, it creates an unfair competitive advantage for Wealthsimple). They wouldn't want to fight against big bank lawyers.

I do now so I got "someone" to fix it in the original thread. You might want to do likewise in the snippet you quoted. Thanks.

Called them today

They said they couldn’t confirm if promo code was applied, would have to call next week since system refreshes weekly. But they said if if you saw the successfully applied popup you should be good.

As for transferring in 1k from Td?
➡️Said it was fine

Asked if the account had to be a new TYPE of account (I already have TDDi TFSA) so is it fine if I open an easy trade tfsa?
➡️said it was fine

I asked how fast I could get the pad going,
➡️ 3 days so it’s set up for the 21st

I also asked if I can use Td funds for the pad and they ➡️said it was fine

I asked if I can just do 3125x8 months and be good?
➡️Said it was fine

Asked if i can only have 8 months worth of pad setup in the system?
➡️no, it runs until you call in to ask to get it cancelled

How much notice is required to cancel pad?
➡️3 days
