TD ruins appeal of First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card

Information from posting in bill:
"Starting August 16, 2015, you can now redeem in minimum $1 increments for travel purchased through any travel providers outside of Expedia For TD® (“Book Any Way”).
Here is how it works:
1. For the first $1,200 of that travel purchase (equal to 300,000 TD Points):
• Every 250 TD Points redeemed equals $1 in travel savings for that travel purchase amount. 2. For each $1 over the first $1,200 of that travel purchase:
• Every 200 TD Points redeemed are worth $1 in travel savings for that travel purchase amount that is over the first $1,200.
For example: Travel of $2,275 equals 515,000 TD Points. Details on page 2 in the enclosed Important Notice."

Basically if you use "Book Any Way", your rewards value drops to $40/ 10,000 TD points (from the current $50)

They also add: "Remember, when you redeem for travel booked through Expedia For TD, you must redeem in minimum increments of 10,000 TD Points ($50 travel value)."

Looks like they are trying to move people to the higher margin Expedia for TD system.

This is making the BMO World Elite cards (Travel or Cash Back) much more appealing tbh, especially with the fee wavier like TD does with the all-inclusive account.

Thoughts?

Looks like they added some new language to the terms too: "TD Points will not expire as long as the Account remains open and in good standing, and this Agreement has not ended. In the event that we end the Agreement for any reason, all TD Points will expire immediately."

It used to JUST read: "TD Points will not expire as long as the Account remains open and in good standing."

BMO's premium plan and cards are more competitive if you can't get or don't need the safety deposit box

The two percent on the travel world elite requires using the expedia for BMO site anyways, so you're not getting much more freedom by switching to it

Bad move by TD. This card is now officially on the garbage list.

I see they have increased the out of country medical to 21 days from 15 which is pretty good. Guess they really want you to use Expedia for TD for full value.

Converted to what, if you don't mind me asking?

I would love to dump TD (after having been a customer for about twenty years), but the key thing I can't find a replacement for is a decent credit card either without an annual fee or whose fee is covered by the chequing account. HSBC looks tempting at the moment.

I have always only used this card for travel booked through the TD for Expedia site.
That's where you can maximize (4.5%) your rewards.
It's still a good card for that purpose, no?

BMO no longer charges the annual fee on the World Elite if you hold 5k in its equivalent of all inclusive chq account.

Is there an easy way to transfer money from BMO chequing account to TD water house? I am thinking of changing my main bank account to BMO because of the credit card offering.

It's as easy as adding a bill payee.

So glad I just liquidated my points and already applied for a BMO world elite card. With all these changes TD seems to be slowly adding lemon juice to my milk over the past 6 months. First the change to the borderless account not being included in the all-inclusive and now this.

Guess I'll be taking advantage of BMO's offer and open a premium account there. TD's all-inclusive is not starting to look all-inclusive anymore.

I've been a big supporter and defender of this card in the past, but this is the end. I put 100% of my travel purchases on this card, and have enjoyed the 4.5% return, but TD continues to make the points earning and redemption system the most convoluted and complex of any card on the market. If you do A your points are worth X, but if you do B your points are worth Y except on a full moon when they are worth 89% of Y, and if you do C you don't get any points at all... Maybe its because I'm an old man, but I honestly don't see how this change gives me "more redemption flexibility than ever before." I'm going back to an Amex Gold and to hell with this TD card.

You could always redeem for purchases outside of expedia for TD.

I charged some BA Avios taxes to it (impossible to book via expedia of course), and redeemed 20k points for 100 dollar credit.

Now the same 20k points will get a eighty dollar credit.

Wow that's horrible. Been saving up my points and thinking about how to use them. Less excited/willing to use this card now.

Has anyone had success redeeming points in the city you live, e.g. if you take a staycation?

OK, here's a scenario.

Say I have 6000 points and I book with Expedia for TD a $500 flight. I cannot redeem 10000 right away while booking, but if I book first, then I get credited 4500 points a few days later for total of 10500. I then use the Book Any Way later to redeem 10000 against this trip.

Seems like you won't be able to do this anymore.
