[Telus] Telus Internet Flash Sale (PureFibre Internet 300 from $75/mo)

If anyone is looking for a decent Telus PureFibre internet deal, they're having a Flash Sale.

It looks to be nationwide, since the deal stayed the same when I changed to different provinces.

Here are some quick details of the deal:
  • Internet 300 with unlimited home internet data for 24 months (usually $20/mo extra)
  • Reliable internet with up to 300 Mbps upload and download speeds
  • The fastest Wi-Fi in Western Canada with Wi-Fi 6
  • A guarantee your price won’t increase during your 2 year term
  • No $50 activation fee and $50 off your first bill

Note: Telus or Koodo customers get an additional bundling discount of $10/month which is already included in their promo price. So $85 is their actual promo price if you're not a Telus or Koodo customer already.

Make sure you use the discount code FLASH at checkout.

Why settle for full retail price when you can wait and get it at a lower price for better value (even better if there's a bundled freebies deal)? 😉

"Flash deal" is more like "Regularly intended price", especially when it's $85/month if you don't have a Telus or Koodo phone (fine print says that the price of $75 already includes that discount).

Haha, right? I’m in the same boat.

And to make matters worse, they are paying the same for those Lambos & Ferraris as we are for our Hyundais! Disappointed But Relieved Face

Lol, I pay $54/m for Gigabit. Online prices can't compare to the reps in stores. Prefer it that way honestly.

No Price increase for 2 years is misleading. They will increase the fees but keep the $75 the same. They break down the pricing in a very sneaky way. Also the discount includes tax so if you get a $10 discount you will pay the tax for that discount.

They have good service but their money tactics are bad. I wish there were more regulations on telecoms.

I was paying for $50/month for Internet 75 and then they jacked up the price by $5 a few months ago. Now I'm paying $55/month. The $20 difference between 75 and 300 isn't even close to comparable to me. I'd gladly pay the $75/month for 300/300 over $55 for 75/20.

What does the bolded mean?

Did you try calling in to ask them to add more discounts to cover the price increase? I'm curious if this strategy still works.

They wouldn't do anything. My plan is already heavily discount. $55/month for Internet 75 with unlimited data.

I don’t even have access to Telus now as the copper line has failed. No replacement until 2024.

Shopped around internet deals last week as my telus 2-year term just ended.

Shaw store special (Vancouver area, 2 years term, $100 credit)

500 mbps down / 100 up $60 per month
750 mbps down / 100 up $65 per month
Gigabit down / 100 up $75 per month

Called in telus retention and got offered $99 for gigabit. Called again to cancel but was offered $69 gigabit, unlimited usage and $200 credit.

Hope this is helpful for someone.

Telus artificially increases the internet monthly price, say $100/month. Telus will give you a credit promo of $50/ month. So the assumption would be to pay $50/month right? (100-50). But that's not true. The bill statement will show that the cost would be $56 + applicable taxes because that credit of $50 has tax included...Loophole. see below from their website.

"Credit provided is discretionary and includes applicable taxes (based
on the taxes levied in the province of supply) therefore the value
displayed on your bill is the value before tax. For example, a $10
discretionary credit towards Internet service offered in BC includes
$0.62 PST and $0.45 GST, meaning the credit value displayed will be
$8.93. The $0.62 PST and $0.45 are captured as reductions in the
amount of tax charged on your balance owing."

They had another loophole where they can increase the price even though the contract was for 2 years but that closed due to CRTC new regulations in 2020.

It's not really a loophole technically. A credit is offered after tax is calculated while a discount is offered before tax is calculated.

Telus Home Services used to widely offer discounts, but now they almost only give credits. There was an entire thread about this subject in the RFD Shopping Discussions forum too.

From what the Telus tech told me when they installed my Telus PureFibre back last year when they finally rolled out fibre in my neighbourhood is they've decommissioned their copper network and it's all fibre from this point forward. That's too bad they haven't kept the copper lines active while they rolled out their fibre network in your area so you're at least hobbling along on Internet 75. Before and during the pandemic, Shaw was totally eating Telus's lunch since Telus stopped rolling out fibre and couldn't keep up with Shaw's network speed. They resumed rolling out fibre and I finally just got fibre late last year.

That's if you're lucky enough to speak with a Telus rep. I just got my Telus deal from a door-to-door sales rep when Telus finally rolled out their PureFibre network in my neighbourhood which is super aggressive at meeting and even beating Shaw's pricing -- and even willing to pay me for breaking my contract with Shaw by offering a massive bill credit to make up for the penalty.

If you're looking for a decent Internet deal with Telus and aren't lucky enough to speak with a rep or retentions, then this deal might make sense to take into consideration.

Last October, I called into Telus Retention, and received the following home internet offer: Telus 75, Unlimited Data for $43.21 plus taxes per month, as well as $200 one-time credit for a two year contract on my internet. I had called in to cancel and that I was “most likely” going to Shaw.

With all the discounts, makes it like $26.54 per month, for two years.

Really depends if you receive a nice retention rep!
