Termite Pest Control Companies in Toronto - Basically a Scam?
I've been looking into Termite treatment for a property and I'm very surprised with what I'm finding.
It seems that companies in Toronto are charging 5x(or more) compared to the USA when termite treatment is needed, the application methods and products used are very similar.
To give an example in this video you can see the breakdown and cost of a full treatment of a property with 440 linear ft in the USA ($650 USD), for comparison, I talked to a few companies from the GTA and most of them won't even come to the property to give you a quote without charging (they want $150 to give you a quote). I've gotten quotes in the ball part of 5x (just outside perimeter) and 6x the amount from the video for a much smaller property. These companies also confirmed that this is all done within 1 day. This work consists of drilling holes every 1 linear feet and pouring the termiticide in all around the house (just like in the video above) - It's relatively straight forward.
For them this is less than 1 day job with 1 person and they are getting away with charging this much. I think the reason for this is that our government has made it very difficult to do this yourself, you can't really buy the products in Canada and you are probably not allowed to pour them yourself either (unlike in the USA where products are readily available and people are encouraged to exercise their brain and problem solving skills).
One of the companies said that it's a very straight forward situation and guaranteed to work the other one used annoying scare tactics of making it seem like it was a very difficult situation and I was totally screwed... At one point the company also told me that someone tried to do it themselves, the government "found out" and the person had to pay a multi million dollar fine
Anyways, this is what we get here, the government probably didn't intend for the average person to get screwed when they made it so you can't buy insecticide but this seems to be the consequence of their policies.
Does anyone know of a termite person that is willing to charge a reasonable fee based on labour hours of work + material used (something that is not close to $800-$1000 per hour)?
