[The Bay] eLink 2.5" Dashcam $18.00 at The Bay YMMV

Seems like a good deal for a basic unit. This was at the Oakville store.. About 5 or 6 left this afternoon.

My friend bought something identical (different brand name but I'm sure these are made OEM from the same factory) from Princess Auto for about $20. Aduro DVC 100. I'd stay away from it but if you really want to play with it I suppose it's OK? 720p recording. TFT screen. Night vision uses those infrared LED's things. Anyone else tried these?

Considerably better dashcams can be had for the $39-$49 price point. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather invest an extra twenty or thirty bucks to ensure I get the proof I may need to save myself hundreds (or thousands) in the future.

He's saying a bad dash cam might not capture something incriminating, or another bad driver. Not that he's a bad driver.

These cams have been as cheap as $10 so this is pretty much 'normal' price.

You know people get dashcams for insurance purposes?

The low end 720p dash cams are absolute crap. I bought a low end one from the Source on a clear out for $20 (it was my first dashcam a few years ago) - it was useless - you couldn't make out license plate details unless you were sitting behind the other car at a stoplight.

Now I have a Viofo A119 and it works great.

Barely worth $18 on the "better than nothing" principle. Crude VGA resolution, and probably not even 30fps at that. No night capability to speak of, narrow angle of view.

It's not about you being a bad driver, I had an incident where this lady side swiped my car and made up a story for her insurance company and my company called back saying stories don't line up so you will be held at fault as well... Until I told her I had a video of the whole incident and sent her the video and the claim was adjusted to be at no fault accident... That incident alone has well paid for my dash cam...

The real question is how good of a liar is the other party.
Cell plans - anything more than $10/gb is a ripoff.

What an ignorant statement.

Three years ago, I was driving under a bridge and a rock the size of a quarter literally shot out from it and put a hole in my hood. I was able to show this to the proper people and they ended up covering the cost to fix.

This generic model has horrible battery life, will die if the battery has no charge. It also does not charge fast enough to even trickle charge and keep it on while driving. Software does not freeze at least as other generic dashcams I had.
