[The Bay] Fulton Slinger Umbrella $21

*admin edit* replaced link with a short link to fix the url

(Apparently, all the Fulton umbrellas are on sale at the bay atm. Sypsy in this thread and the consensus I see on reviews online say Fulton umbrellas don't normally go on sale).

Don't forget rakuten for an extra 5% off.

This umbrella normally goes for $28. It's on sale for $21. Even if it wasn't on sale, I would totally have paid full price for it.

So I saw this umbrella at Shoppers Drug Mart in 2009 and thought it was cool. You can wear it like a backpack or a shoulder bag. It cost $29 at the time. I never thought how convenient or handy that it could become! I used it for 9 years until I left and lost it in an EVO in 2018. No umbrella I'd ever used had lasted me this long. If I hadn't lost it, pretty sure it would have lasted even longer.

My best friend had also bought the umbrella at the time I bought it. He swore it was the best umbrella he'd ever had! That strap was so convenient, especially if you're taking public transit. He forgot it on the bus, and lost it in 2013.

Since the time my friend and I lost it, I've searched EVERYWHERE for this umbrella again. A few years ago I found something similar to it, but it was like $80 plus shipping from the UK.

But just a few days ago, I did a search again, and OMG. I've found this umbrella again! And it's the exact same one! I didn't even know it was a brand name. I thought it was just some generic umbrella some company made.

With other strap umbrellas, the strap is usually on the umbrella cover. The strap for this umbrella is DIRECTLY on the umbrella. It's handier/more convenient that way.

This umbrella is super lightweight. I've bought a few different types of other umbrellas from amazon over the years, and they're just so heavy, and not something I would want to carry around on long trips on the bus. They didn't even last a year before they broke.

I saw someone at KFC with this umbrella today, and it made me think of posting this deal on RFD. This was the first person I'd ever seen with this umbrella besides my best friend.

Admin has fixed the link. Don't know why it was redirecting to ebay.

The auto linker is doing funny things with thebay.com URLs. I'll get it fixed up in the morning but for now I've replaced it with the short link so that it'll work.

no, not that I have seen. Going to ubc in 2004, a good umbrella was a must and I got the earlier version of the linked one below at some point. For a while I would keep my eyes out for sales at the bay (or sears) but fultons never went on sale. It must be related to covid to me.
I did ask once and an associate said to me, "it's vancouver, umbrellas don't really go on sale"

I have umm, an embarrassing amount of umbrellas in my home. If I could own only one umbrella, it would be this one: https://www.thebay.com/product/fulton-r ... olor=BLACK

It's bigger than the average folding umbrella when opened, so it comfortably covers too adults, but it folds fairly compactly, slightly bigger than your average folding umbrella.
Stick umbrellas are nice, elegant too, but sometimes you have days where it's not raining in the morning, says 30% pop on the weather app, so you hesitate to bring this with you.
A folding umbrella make it easier to bring, but those small compact single person umbrellas aren't great when it's windy or you are with someone else. So this is kind of the best of both worlds.

If you want to pay $100+ for a functionally similar umbrella, you can find it here: https://ca.davekny.com/collections/umbrellas

For some reason, the bay links are broken when posting them on RFD. The mods said they will fix it in the morning. Is there anyway you can give the exact name of the umbrella you linked, so I can google it? Curious to see what it is. I LOVE bigger umbrellas. Or maybe use bit.ly like the mods did to link it?

TY!

Reinforced Folding Umbrella: https://bit.ly/2Ja1DeJ
It should be the updated version of this: https://www.fultonumbrellas.ca/product/ ... e-jumbo-1/
edit: it should be the same as this one: https://www.fultonumbrellas.ca/product/tornado/
47" or 120cm across

Which would be the same span as this: https://ca.davekny.com/collections/umbr ... davek-duet for $199 CAD (Damnnnn)

Oh man. Normally it's $48, but on sale for $40. I've seen that type of design on umbrellas before. It's supposed to protect against wind too right?

How sturdy is it and how long have you've had it for? I find with small folding umbrellas that you can keep in a bag or purse usually don't last that long. The ribs usually snap easily or stop extending properly.

I have two. The first i got in 2005 or something during my time at UBC. it held up for years. But when I was young I liked to throw things up and catch them, so it dropped a lot and it wore down the fabric where it kept landing at the top, it also broke one rib eventually. I still keep it as back up somewhere at my parents place. I replaced it in probably 2009 or 2010 and i've used that one since (but not exclusively, because i have stick umbrella or really compact folding umbreallas too), however my lifestyle has changed such that I drive a lot or work from home. It goes into the stroller when I walk with my kids though and I don't know if it'll rain. So I guess 10-11 years now? I feel I should go break it and buy a 3rd one with the sale because it's got a wind vent, but my wife will look at me strangely.

My older version is the one on that fulton website without the wind vent, so it has flipped in the wind a few times when the wind changes directions, easy to correct if you just point the umbrella into the window and there was no damage. (or punch the umbrella into the air)

If you have an automatic folding umbrella, always remember to press the button before closing the umbrealla. That's how the mechanism is designed to close, but I hope good automatic umbrellas can work just fine regardless of how they are closed.
