Eww bagless, but I guess if you're on a budget, you're on a budget.

Here's my copy-pasta I use when I comment on the https://www.reddit.com/r/vacuumcleaners forum. Yes, there's a subreddit for everything, this one is frequented by a lot of vacuum tech's. they say you should ask repair guys what to buy because they see them in their worst states, and bagless vacuums, dysons and sharks are rarely recommended as a primary vacuum (great for quick pick up secondary vacuums though)

Bagged: cloth filter bag does most of the filtering, dust and hair get compressed so the bag holds a lot before it needs to be swapped. this isn't like paper bags from decades ago which is probably what all the bagless vacuum marketing departments are comparing themselves to. I personally change my miele c3 bag 2 or 3 times a year, so it's like, $12 a year. Basically no maintenance, swap bag when full, maybe swap motor filter.

Bagless: pretty dirty to empty, and needs to be cleaned often. filters need to be washed, and if you want optimal filtration, the filters need to be changed periodically, and they cost a lot. If you want optimal filtration, bagless will cost more than bagged. (if you don't care for optimal filtration, then just wash the filter and use the same one for the life the the vacuum, but the dust bin still gets pretty gross). One nice benefit is if you vacuum up something valuable it's easy to see and get.

I agree with you, with all the above. But, like I said, don't compare this with a triple $$ vacuum. This is great deal for someone on a budget and still vacuum great. If you have a pet who losts a lot of hairs, this may not be for you, but great to vacuum daily dust or food crumbs, etc...This vacuum cleaner is $130, the cheapest Miele C3 you talk about is $400...

what's your budget? It sucks because a $200 bagged canister in the states is $400 in canada it seems (henry, kenmore)

primarily carpet or hardwood?

Doing a quick search...
https://www.reddit.com/r/VacuumCleaners ... &context=3

I guess a simplicity jill for $200
https://www.amazon.ca/SIMPLICITY-WONDER ... 076VV6ZN3/

or a bissell zing ii for $90
https://canada.bissell.com/zing-ii-bagg ... 2154C.html
Just use the bags for the simplicity jill since they are better cloth bags and not paper

You seem to be biased against bagless, but did you actually try one? I have a dyson, and it's pretty much no maintenance. I empty it every few months (it's a really long and complicated process, involving pushing one button and about 1,5 seconds)

yes, i use them. I vacuum often at my parents place and they have had the dysons since the v6, now they're on a tineco, and I think the LG one looks pretty good.

It's fine for quick pick ups, but not as a main vacuum. if you vacuum with a more powerful vacuum with better filtration, you won't have to vacuum as often.

I'm talking blindly as I never tried a vacuum other than Bagless ( with the exception of my parents Electrolux about 30 years ago ) but I was under the impression my Dyson was pretty good, however I do vacuum often, as you said. Might have to try a bagged one eventually.
