[The Source] Apple MacBook Air 13.3” 256GB, 8GB RAM, i5 - Space Grey - English - $999.99 (Save $700) - Model MVFJ2LL/A

Seems like a really good price for a newer MacBook Air... I've been wanting a Mac for years now but am thinking of waiting for a sale on the new Apple in house CPU models but at this price it seems like a very good deal (but I will probably just wait, since I've been waiting years anyway)...

Lol $700? I think they mean $170 off... regular price is $1169 at apple...

If you can afford the extra $170 with educational discount, the base M1 MacBook Air is significantly better than this outdated model. The 2020 i5s are especially prone to excessive fan noise/overheating.

I believe this is the 2018 version from a quick google search.
Wifey was looking for a new macbook air. Anyone know if this is actually a good deal versus a new macbook air that is $1300 before discounts?

Honestly, I do not think its worth getting an Intel mac lineup when the M1 chip is better in every way and will keep on improving with ea software update.

The m1 version is 25% more but I think the m1 mobile like cpu energy profile makes it’s a better fit for MacBook Air . I haven’t done a full fledged evaluation though

not worth it. The new M1 chips are revolutionary. Save up some more and buy the 2020 model.

No go, this is the 2019 model. If it were the 2020 Intel model, then it's a decent deal.

The Intel model still has its benefits, like support for dual-external monitor.

As many others have also said....get the new M1, more efficient, faster, better battery life, probably better compatibility too with other apple apps/products. A dual-core 1.6ghz i5 just isnt that good for any type of device these days compared to others.

So, this is probably a super, super dumb question, please bear with me, BUT can this play current games on low settings? Would it be good for retro gaming (emulators to date)?

Cold.

M1 or bust. M1 wipes the floor with these Intel models.
I suspect we’re going to start seeing a lot of these sales as retailers start to clear out the old inventory.

Unlike previous versions of apple products where it’s good value to buy on sale, don’t do it here. Totally worth getting the newest model with M1 for the extra $$.

I'd hold off the for the next version of the M1, pretty much beta testing at this point.

If you want to play games, i would suggest you to avoid this laptop... If you go on YouTube and check out the new M1 chip, people are able to play decent games w it...

I agree 1st gen are considered beta, but if you want a MacBook for the "ecosystem" or simply because of the assurance Apple provides. The M1 is a much better value than the Intel version.

I am in market to buy a MacBook pro with 16GB or 32GB RAM. Please let mE know if you have any experience with cutting/bleeding edge M1 ones. I am afraid that it won’t be compatible with some software packages. Is it revolutionary as I am hearing? Or just marketing promises?

This would probably be better for games:

MVFJ2LL/A suggests it's 2019, so this has the older butterfly keyboard that's prone to breaking.
