Pretty old tech...released in 2017

Sensor low light sensitivity, shutter speed, raw burst not up to today's standards, and no EVF.

I'd get a used m50 instead.

I feel like today's standards are too high for picture taking so 5 y/o tech would work just fine especially with the 22mm f2 pancake lens.

I'm using a 7 year old camera myself and the pictures still look great! This isn't a cell phone camera so anything aps-c like this one would be a major upgrade.

Solid deal. I've been using an M5 for years and I absolutely love it. I've been waiting for the M6 Mark ii to go on sale but huge price difference between the mark ii and this one.

As someone else mentioned, buy the 22mm pancake lens and it's a perfect travel camera.

You mean people are asking $600-800 on Kijiji/FB Marketplace. If the ad is still there then it hasn't sold and is likely overpriced. Items with good/great prices get snapped up quickly.

Dslr will always take better pics than a mirrorless camera, but it’ll be hard to tell the difference by the average person. A good photographer can take way better photos on an entry level camera than an amateur with a high end camera

Decent deal! I would go for it if I don't have a M100 already. M6 mark 2 is certainly better, but it is not at the same price point.

That's not even kind of true.

DSLR has absolutely no benefit over mirrorless when it comes to picture quality.

There's a reason every professional camera released now is a mirrorless camera and all of the companies are getting out of the DSLR game. They are objectively superior to use.

EVF >>>> optical viewfinder
Eye AF
Faster shutter speeds
identical picture quality
dual pixel autofocus
etc

Canada, Eh!!
Would've bought however got the M50 few months ago.
2022: BOC raised 8 times and MCAP raised its prime next day.
2017 to 2018: BOC raised rates 5 times and MCAP raised its prime next day each time.
2020: BOC dropped rates 3 times and MCAP waited to drop its prime to include all 3 drops.

M50 is better than M6, so make no regret.

Many would not like to hear but as a non professional photographer whose objective of a camera is capture an event, outing, birthday or a selfie I have stopped using my M50 considering how amazing and convenient iPhone 11, 12 or 13 pro (or even latest Google pixel series) is when it comes to camera. Before someone comments on the price thats basically my phone, good camera is an additional feature on it. The way my phone has replaced 70% of my laptop/tablet usage similarly it has replace 95% of my physical camera usage.

But if you are really into photography it may be worth spending the money because a portrait or a pancake lens with these cameras will give you photos you cants get on any phone but if you are expecting that from the default 15-45 lens which comes with it think again.

That's definitely possible

Mirrorless technology has come a long way now.

I'm pretty sure Nikon is out, or leaving the DSLR market. Sony is out. Canon's last DSLR was the 90D a couple years ago....but they have the m6 mkii as a mirrorless which just the 90D with better features in a smaller body for less money.

EVF is a gamechanging experience too.

I have so much trouble using my optical viewfinder now on my 70d after having an Eos R for a bit. Being able to look through the viewfinder and see exactly how your picture is going to look amazing. Way better than taking the shot, looking at it afterwards, adjusting your settings to make things better, and hoping you didn't miss the moment

Current discounts at the Canon online store for EF-M lenses are at least $20-50 above historical lows, but they are also the first sales in quite a while.

These are currently the best lens deals, and have ATL prices since the start of 2020:
EF-M 22mm f/2 STM - $299
EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM - $599
EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM - $419.99 - best price since June 2019

Sensor performance is same. Given this, I recommend Sony because you have a lot more lens selections both value and premium. With Canon EF-M mount, native offering is slim and adapting EF lenses means extra bulk so you might as well get a DSLR for even more savings.

Before buying this, think about what lens you will use with this camera. I am comparing to Sony because Fuji/OM/Panasonic don't have all the lenses in this price category.

value
EF-M 22mm f/2 <> E 20mm f/2.8 (Canon is 1 stop brighter, the only advantage in entire lineup) Canon+1
EF-M 32mm f/1.4 <> E 30mm f1.4 (buy Sigma and save money for both Canon/Sony) Tie
E 35mm f/1.8 OSS (There is no canon equivalent, this is my goto lens for bodies without EVF) Sony+1
EF-M 18-150mm <> E 18-135 (Sony is sharper) Sony+1
EF-M 55-200mm <> E 55-210mm (same) Tie

premium
E 70-350mm G OSS (no EF-M equivalent, you must adapt full frame EF lens) Sony+1
E 18-55 G (no EF-M equivalent, you must adapt full frame EF lens) Sony+1

E 35mm 1.8 OSS alone seals the deal for me. It stays on my A5100 and I carry it in jacket pocket for nighttime. I bring camera with an EVF when using a premium lens

Note: I came from Canon DSLR and quite familiar with EF lineup. I did consider buying EF-M just for the 20mm f/2, but owning two sets of mounts is too much.
