You miss the point: most homes aren't zoned so this allows you to pick which point sets temperature. For example at night I want the basement where we sleep to take priority, during the day upstairs.

But in honesty the Nest thermostats are now dated and inflexible. There's still no option for a proper multizone setup (e. g. underfloor heating) or having a separate controller and electrical node (the bit that wires into a furnace).

One of ours recently died after just 2 years of use (despite my gen 1's still running ok). Given Google's incessant desire to dumb down excellent projects to the point of destruction I will be looking elsewhere for options. Maybe ecobee this time (if they have added underfloor systems now).
