To this day, other than LG OLED panels, nothing beats the black level on plasma screens.
Yes, for sure but even a lot of other esoteric and vague picture quality related aspects just seem better. It just seems a lot less "digital", smoother and "nicer" picture than a lot of the newer tvs. My friend has a Q9F samsung and it looks amazing, and in a lot of technical ways its far superior but then it also doesnt seem as plesant to watch. Hard to quantify and super subjective but it's why I have held on to the old girl for so long. Maybe Im just old and this is how I finally figured it out...

It's a 6 year old model but any thoughts on the Samsung UN46F5500AF : https://www.thesource.ca/en-ca/tvs-home ... /108073258
$300 for a open box 6 year old 1080p TV is a hard pass...

You can get a 2019 4K TV 43" for $29 more brand new.
https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/tc ... a/13185857

2019 4K TV 50" for $80 more brand new.
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07KG318MQ/ref ... =UTF8&th=1

2019 4K TV 55" for $150 more brand new.
https://www.amazon.ca/TCL-55S425-CA-Ult ... B07DXRQHRJ

Those 3 i linked above aren't super great deals also.. It's embarassing that thesource is still selling those TV's for $300..

I got a brand new TV from this deal last year. Everything was sealed and it was clear the TV was never used.

What's the cheapest approximately 40" 1080p display out there? Anyone have a suggestion?

Any reason why not to just get a 4K for a little bit more? 4K TV's upscales your content, making it look nicer. It's pointless in my opinion to buy a brand new 40" 1080p, will have much better results buying it used.

Does this have Google play so we can install apps
No, I looked it up yesterday and it's Hisense's is with Netflix and others. If you're getting this I'd recommend a FireTv when it goes on sale again.

Doesn't seem to be available anymore, mine should be available to pick up this weekend. Let's hope I get lucky and it ends up being a brand new one

Right there with you, fingers crossed haha. If it doesn't work out I'll just get a 75" qled or 65" OLED haha

Weighing in my experience with purchasing a TV with similar characteristics (scratch dent / refurbished) from The Source - the TV worked for approximately two weeks and then began having severe visual distortions.

I was outside of the return period but within the warranty period, so I sent it in for warranty repairs. After two months of hearing nothing and The Source literally not returning my phone calls, I had enough and contacted my credit card company to do a chargeback. The Source did not respond to my credit card company either and so the case was won in my favor and I received my money back.

  • Unlimited Data (25gb LTE)
  • Unlimited Talk / Text
  • Unlimited Roaming in US / Canada / Mexico

One of those 55" 4K TV's is probably one that I sent in for repair. There's a design flaw where the optical output is stereo only. We took the TV in for repair (the firmware was up to date and there was no fix available) - we are using it in a spare room with an older Marantz 5.1 receiver with no HDMI input/output, that's way too good to retire, with the optical output of the TV feeding the receiver.
It seems the Source lost the TV somewhere between the store, their warehouse in Barrie ON and the repair facility.
After a making us wait a few weeks - while they tried to find the TV - they gave up and gave us a new one.
BTW I paid $325 with EPP for a BNIB last year.
The replacement TV had a FIFA World Cup splash screen on boot - downloaded a software update and the FIFA logo was gone.

Get a good box - TV installed apps never work well.
