[The Source] Ipad pro 9.7 inch (2016 model)

This is the 2016 ipad pro model. The cheapest this ipad was sold was $600 at walmart. This is still a good deal if you are looking to buy a pro model.

You may want to consider this Apple refurbished ipad pro 10.5 , 64gb , June 2017 for $739. Bigger CPU and double storage capacity. Also, there is 2% rebate from ebates.ca

ipad 10.5

The 10.5 also has 4gb of ram vs 2gb in the 9.7. This makes a huge difference in having to keep apps in memory especially with the increased multitasking in iOS on iPad. Definitely get the 10.5 over the 9.7. I own a 9.7 too.

so basically the pro is faster with bigger screen, is that really that important for a tablet? i'm wondering if i should upgrade to the latest ipad, or the pro verison.

for regular surfing i find the ipad 9.7 is pretty good. perhaps the pro comes in handy if you want to create a drawing or do some work but i use my tablets as strictly media consumption device.

I got the iPad Pro 9.7 128gb version last summer at Best Buy in Buffalo ny for $524 US when they were trying to clear out the stock. I have also tried the new 10.5 iPad Pro, I would also recommend the new one over the old one, as the new one has way better performance with iOS 11.2.

The Ipda pro 10.5 is 499 USD in Target USA before Christmas, which is less than 640 after conversion.

The 10.5 pro brings a few tangible differences over the 9.7 regular (non-pro). Whether they apply to your use case, YMMV.

1) Pen and easy keyboard support. This is a big one. If you type a lot or like to draw, then it's hard to replicate this on a regular iPad.
2) More RAM (4 vs. 2) and faster CPU. Keep more apps in memory longer. If you switch between apps or have lots of safari tabs open, this is a must. The CPU shouldn't make that big of a difference.
3) better screen (true tone + wider colour gamut + laminated + ProMotion). If you do *very* colour sensitive work, this is also a must. But I can't imagine many people really needing this. Truetone and promotion and laminated screens are one of those "once you've tried it, you can't live without it" type of things. again, not huge deal breakers
5) better Speakers: if you listen to a lot of music/audio through tablet speakers, this is a nice bonus. but not a deal breaker.

the difference between the 10.5 pro and 9.7 pro is only #2 (RAM + CPU) and ProMotion, and screen size obviously.

Hope this helps.
