Thoughts on this vs. Paperwhite?

I have a paperwhite that is probably 6-7 years old and is starting to slowdown, so I’m thinking about upgrading. Seems like a good deal but I assume the paperwhite is better?

Paper white is waterproof, offers more storage space and almost up to twice as bright so yeah it’s better but also costs more.

BestBuy has same deal, minus PSP: https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/am ... k/14479197

How are these? I used to have a Sony PRS-T1 but even with a matte screen found annoying glare when using a reading light. I'm guessing the built-in light would prevent that here.

Does this or any other e-reader have text to speech?

I have a kindle that is 8 years old but could really use the back light.
Can you still plug these into your computer and use Calibre to transfer books or have they locked it down over the years?

Just a heads up that Amazon is expected to introduce a colour eink kindle next year.

It will be way more expensive of course and possibly won't come though haha... Just wanted to pass on some info on it.

You still can. I put my wheel of Time books on it using this method a little while ago. I'm on a Paperwhite

Does the PPI difference between the paperwhite and the kindle make that big of a difference? From YouTube it looks like the Kindle is probably fine for almost everyone.

Dont forget that you can get cases for 1/2 the price on Alibaba!

My Paperwhite has text to speech, but they also removed the speaker, so it is via Bluetooth only now. Sorry don't know what Paperwhite gen I have....
My really old Kindle has speakers.....but never used them.
I think its pretty standard by now.

I got a second hand Voyage and I like the experience of reading on it a lot more than this one. Double the PPI and haptic feedback buttons makes a big difference for me.

Honestly, not really much of a difference between the 2. Paperwhite probably has a better real life application for reading by a pool or something because it’s waterproof. Personally, don’t care much about that and I prefer the recessed screen of the kindle vs. The flush screen of the paperwhite anyway.

Nope. The PPI difference between the 2 isn’t significant in real life. You’ll only notice it if you put them both together and try to compare. If the kindle fits your needs, that would be the way to go I think.
