M2 model may release around March 2022.

The price may deepen then.

They will probably copy what they did with the Macbook Pro. Increase the price to ? $1899 ? and keep selling this model for the same price.

Highly unlikely. The entire point of the Air is to be a ~$1000 price point MacBook available to all. However, if the design rumours are true, it will be ugly as hell (white bezels, white keyboard, pastel colour body.

What's the return policy on these? Besides looking for physical damage/scratches, is there anything we should be checking on these devices (ex. battery health %) to determine how much use & wear these open box items have on them?

Very unlikely, Mac still have an extremely small user base. I would say M1 Mac user base is even smaller. Apple has to broaden M1 MAC users base, to elicit more applications to MAC.

I think they will keep M2 macbook air around $1100 range and introduce a M1 $750 entry level macbook for low end users, the same setup as their iPad line.

I can't imagine Apple sell M1 Air for $750, it is already pretty good for the money at $1000 price, lower it to $750 that will lower their margin and causing big trouble for the margin of the all computer manufactures.

No way Tim Apple offers new tech and a redesigned macbook air without a huge price increase. The redesigned MBP just released for 1k more than the older model. Just look at the track record.

Airpods gen 3 - price increase, gen 2 stays same price
imac 24 redesign - substantial price increase
macbook pro redesign - substantial price increase
mac pro redesign - substantial price increase
ipad mini redesign - substantial price increase
ipad air redesign - price increase

I'd be surprised to see a M2 MBA under $1699CAD

Apple is a different company now. Could you imagine budget iphone, budget ipad 5 years ago ?

Apple is behemoth, but their entire ecosystem is based on iPhone's popularity. Apple is desperate to give their users another reason to stay at Apple ecosystem. They need a series of "budget" devices to solidify Apple empire. I do expect some similar device like surface go laptop for $750.

Wondering the same thing. I’m assuming they’re next to new but I’d hate to get a unit that dies on me after the return period

Next MacBook Air won't be released till the 2nd half of 2022. All the pertinent rumours are consolidated here.

https://www.macrumors.com/guide/2022-macbook-air/

I'd wait if you can, and buy a $400 2015 MacBook Pro instead. Sell it when the next Air comes out.

But if you need a basic MacBook today, then the M1 Air is absolutely the best deal out there.

At $1000-$1200 depending on how you buy it, nothing can touch it from a performance or form factor perspective. I'd just buy it for $1169 with the Education Discount from Apple. The original retail box adds a lot of value when you go to sell it in a few years. If you don't care about that, buy refurbished from Apple.

It literally says:
From the time of your purchase, warranty and service of your new Apple product will be handled solely by Apple Inc. at 1-800-275-2273.
For all other products in this category, the manufacturer will need to address any warranty issues, but we can help let you know who to contact.

If you want to refund for whatever reason, you have to mail it back to the source. If you’re 100% sure you’ll keep it this seems like a good deal though.

I’ll hang on a little more and see if this will get any cheaper.

These are not "new"

What does 'open box' mean?
Open Box items have had the boxes opened at some point during their time at the store, possibly to check colours or for a closer look at the product. The Source provides warranty protection on all open box products. Visit our Clearance and check out the great deals!

I just had a conversation with a The Source rep online. They confirmed that the device Is not activated on the Apple network already. So the 12 month warranty should come from Apple. I pulled the trigger, but I'm still a bit skeptical about the idea that device is open-box but not activated. I will report back on cosmetic condition, hardware condition, battery cycles, accessory usage and activation status once I receive it.

Rakuten and GCR offer no Cashback on computer purchase from The Source. TopCashBack offers 0.5%, but 5 bucks is 5 bucks ( assuming they deliver this time ).

New account offer 10 off 50 code didn't work for this order.

Would be very hot if you could activate the warranty and still get apple care. Thanks for being a guinea pig.
