Yup, this is pretty good for sure. I was lucky enough to grab this same bundle for $460 in July 2015, when Blacks shut down. But in in the used market you can get a D7100 with 18-140 VR lens for not a lot more money than this. ($700 to $800 with some hunting) I was lucky enough to snag a D7100 body used for $300 last week, and the D7100 sensor is a really big upgrade vs D7000.

The 18-105 VR lens has also never really impressed me, boring lens with mediocre IQ. I would suggest grabbing a D7000 body used for 300 or so, and finding a good prime lens.

Yes I know it isn't as cheap as staples was clearing it out for but there very few of them available.

This is the NON STM version.
It's OOS, and this lens is constantly available on Kijiji where you can get a mint copy for 100 bucks. It's a lens that tends to be bought by newbies and never used. It's a very good lens for the money.

They are both good deals, but the D7000 deal is better. It depends if you want a bigger camera with semi pro features or not though. The D5200 is much smaller and the 18-55 VR II gives better IQ than the 18-105 VR lens (I own both lenses). The D5200 also has a significantly better sensor. D7000 has a much better viewfinder, better controls and handling, weather sealed, much bigger battery, and can autofocus and meter with all old Nikon lenses, as it has a built in screw drive focus motor.

+1 I didn't buy anything, but an extra 25 bucks off might have convinced me.

The 18-105 VR is great, similar IQ to 18-55 VR for the overlapped range with the flexibility to reach all the way to 105mm. It compares well against Sony SELP18105G which costs 3-4 times more.

Was wondering if the Nikon D5200 for $449 is better than canon Sl1 that they will be selling at $370 Black Friday?
I'm just looking for a decent beginner camera.

Anything available anyone would recommend if you want to take high resolution pictures of close up electronics, PCB boards, solder joints, etc? My camera phone is too crappy for that.

Thanks

All you need is a macro lens. Almost all camera, DSLR or mirrorless, will do fine as long as you have the right lens.

If you are getting a Nikon, this one works.
