Are there any deals for a Milwaukee M12 Battery?

Is there ever any deals on the M12 6aH batteries at HD? There is always the tool and 2.0 bat and charger deal, but never seen any 6.0 ones.

Anyone know or am I gonna have to pay retail for that bad boy?

There is a tool section, basically the Home & Garden one or whatever.

But jokes aside, in Canada typically the cheapest sale price on the 6Ah is $99, which comes around once in a while.

You can get 4Ah cheaper when the 2x 4Ah kit promo comes along--return the tool, keep the battery kit, which will end up a little over $100 IIRC, when you use the most expensive tool. Then you could even sell the charger for like $10-15 and the second battery for like $60 on Kijiji and really get a low price paid for the remaining one.

Otherwise the 6Ah seems to get put in promos here and there in US, which you can use return trick on (but note there it's usually the opposite of here where you have to order online, not in-store, to do this). That would likely be the cheapest way to get the 6Ah. Either that or find someone selling on kijiji--might be able to score one for $80 or so, and no tax.

There are cheap M12 clone batteries on Amazon.ca if you want to gamble for a lower price. Reviews are mixed - lots of reports of poor fit and broken plastic tabs as well as below-spec performance and short life compared to original M12 batteries.

Thanks. I’d think I’d want the 6aH vs. the 4 simply due to I’m using it in the 1/2” impact and 1/4” die grinder so I’d want all the juice I can get.

I bought a couple of the cheap Chinese ones off amazon. They work great. The tabs broke on one of them and they replaced it very easily and I kept the old one.

Have you had them long enough to comment on the lifespan compared to the genuine M12 batteries?

I bought a pair of 2.0's around Boxing day or so from HD for $20 each. Seemed like a good deal but I don't really need the longer runtime as I mostly use the M12 tools for smaller things.

Looks like the price has doubled since I bought, I paid about $38/each
Indeed, the triple humped beast that shall not be named confirms a lowest price of $30 in Dec 2019 vs. $82 now.

That seems out of line with other clone M12 batteries, like this one offering 2 x 6ah batteries for $58.

Ya I saw those as well. Compared to legit m12 batteries, $82 is still half price for a 6ah

Try it out, at that price if it "lemon" you not losing much. I guess it will have as much capacity as a Milwaukie XC 3 amp or 4 amp.

The 6Ah isn't really going to give that much more "juice" than the 4Ah. It will be a little but not a huge amount. They are both 6-cell batteries using fairly high-quality cells, given these are premium-priced Milwaukee products. It's the equivalent of taking a CP 2.0 and CP 3.0 and expecting the 3.0 is going to give significantly more power than the 2.0. Not really going to happen. The only batts you really want to stay away from IMO are the CP 1.5 and XC 3.0 which are just low-rent and overpriced (the latter is basically 2x a 1.5), mostly because they are basically the same price as the 2.0/4.0.

Also I wouldn't buy either the 3rd-party/knock-off batts, nor would I buy the fakes from eBay, etc. These are going to be 100% China cells in there, no doubt. That's not exactly what you want for "the most juice". These batteries usually miss the mark by some percentage. So like if it says 6.0 it's probably more like 4.0-5.0 Ah anyway. But, not only that with Li-Ion cells you have to be aware of the discharge capability. Cheap cells might have 10A discharge capability or something, while premium cells in the 1st party batts can have 3-4x that amount--and this is what gives that "juice" you're talking about.

3rd party/fake batteries also have more problems with the tabs (even the real ones sometimes have issues but the knock-offs are much worse). Also lots of reports of them working fine for a while and then just getting rejected by the charger one day, and not taking a charge anymore. Seen more than one YT video where people have tried them, say they aren't worth it in the long run, with same said people opting to use only genuine/1st party batts thereafter. Another dimension of this is with the eBay fakes--by buying them you are supporting counterfeiting, which in itself is problematic, whether it's M12 batteries or other things. 3rd party batts don't have this issue but they're still basically the same when it comes to quality/performance.

It's not worth it trying to save a buck by using non-genuine batteries. Just wait for a deal on the real ones.
