Think Protection alarm - $100 off and free shipping, good buy?

The think protection home alarm currently has a $100 off any package. I was able to negotiate free shipping with sales rep. Just wondering if it is a good buy? Their monthly monitoring fee is $12.99 with no contract. But since I'll have to buy their equipment which cannot be used elsewhere, I guess that's kinda contract in an indirect way. What are other alternates in the market with comparable pricing? I'm not looking at self monitoring.

Can the hardware be used to self monitor for free?
If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

That's some cheapo looking hardware. And it doesn't appear to have any of the UL listings that real alarm equipment has.

No, It can't be used for self monitoring. It's all locked by them. Once you think you don't need/like their services anymore you could sell it on kijiji to recoup some of your investment.
They have the cheapest alarm monitoring service I found.
I am using them for last 6 months without any issues. Once we unlocked the door without disabling the alarm and drove off. Got a call from them in 5 mins.
However, their 85 db siren is useless. You can hear it on the same floor only. If you're on another floor or sleeping, it won't be of any use.
