My husband received a letter from Telus for $10 increase a month starting March 1. Contacted Telus and the agent gave him 2 options. Either pay the same price but the data goes down to 6gig or pay the $10 increase and he gets an extra 5gig for a total of 15gig.

Does anyone has better offers with Telus?

As there aren't any alternatives to 10GB plans in that price range from the big 3, Telus knows they will be ahead with this $10 increase even if they lose a few customers.

This is just ridiculous. Although a $5 increase isn't great, it can be expected - but $10??? That's insane!
Back in December 2017, I was specifically told by the Telus guy in the store that the price will not increase on this plan. Once I'm officially notified of this price increase I will be contacting Telus.
Koodo: 6GB data, Canada Wide Calling, Unlimited Text Messages, 1000 LD Mins to select countries = $50/month (-$5/month discount for 24 months, then $55/month)

Its BYOD, so no binding contract saying the price will remain the same forever. Pretty bad move from the big 3, but it was inevitable...

Interesting. Telus took a similar tactic with you as Fido did with me.

For my $5 price increase on Fido, I called in and asked what they can do about it. They wouldn't give me any $ credits, but offered me 3 GB extra per month for a total of 13 GB, for 12 months.

Yeah, I was kinda expecting a $5 increase eventually, but didn't expect it quite so early. I wouldn't have expected a $10 increase though. That's a 17% increase!

How long is this for? Is this your new base plan or is it a 5 GB add-on, like my 3 GB add-on for 12-months for my now $65 plan?

I would recommend filing a ccts complaint https://www.ccts-cprst.ca/
What is the complaint that you would register? The CCTS will only intervene when a carrier violates the wireless code or a contract term that you have with them. All carriers have a clause in their terms of service that says they can change anything they want as long as they inform you of the change and give you a chance to leave if you wish. I don't see any violation of a terms of service due to a price increase. From a business point of view, they are making a brilliant move by placating to angry customers with a usage increase. Bandwidth is cheap.
Koodo $40/6GB
Public Mobile 2016 fall promo, $23/1GB, $38/5GB
Fido $0.00/3GB+tablet

It's actually doubly brilliant because by increasing the data allotment, most would feel compelled to somehow use up the extra data -- seeing as they're paying extra for it -- even if they don't normally need the extra data. If they do eventually get used to having that much data, they'll have effectively trapped themselves in a more expensive tier, and there is nowhere to go but up when the inevitable price hike happens.

I know you said you are cheap before, but you've got to stop with this already. People like data, and technology progresses.

It’s my new base plan, not an add-on.

I just received the letter in the mail from Telus yesterday too.

What a god damn joke. I specifically remember the price was set to never increase on this plan when I first signed up, how the **** can they get away with this?

I'm going to be fuming calling them

Fido customer here. I just got my bill for last month and it seems like I was charged $65 for the period ending Feb. 3, even though all indications were that the price would only be increasing after this period. Is anyone else in this situation?
