[3 HK] Mobile Data 10GB (CA/US/AUS/NZ/UK) eSIM - $138 HKD/$22 CAD

Deal Link:
Retailer:
Three HK
Was searching for a ESIM for my UK travels and this caught my eye. Having this might be cheaper than getting a data SIM locally.

20GB available for a $10 more. Downside is I believe the internet traffic is routed via HK so might not be the quickest. Uses the Rogers network in Canada.

[Plans]
$138 HKD/$22 CAD - 30 Days - 10GB
$198 HKD/$32 CAD - 30 Days - 20GB
$298 HKD/$44 CAD - 365 Days - 30GB + 5 GB of Social Data

[Notes]
- All plans are unlimited data, after the usage is exceeded speed are slowed to 128kbps
- Social Media Data is only available to the use of mobile apps (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, LINE & WeChat)
- HK IP Address is given when using the mobile data

[What is a eSIM?]
The eSIM works the same way as a traditional SIM card, but you don’t need a physical SIM card to use it. It is actually pre-installed in the device and you can activate it by installing an “eSIM profile” on it.

[Devices with eSIM technology]
iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone SE 2 (2020) , iPad Pro 11" (1st Gen or later), iPad Pro 12.9" (3rd Gen or later), iPad Air (3rd and 4th Gen), iPad (7th and 8th Gen), iPad mini (5th Gen), Google Pixel 5, 4, 4a, 4 XL, 3, 3 XL, 3a, 3a XL, Huawei P40, P40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro, Motorola Razr, Oppo Find X3 Pro, Oppo Reno 5 A, Razr 5G, Rakuten Mini, Samsung Galaxy Fold, Note 20, Note 20 Ultra, S21 5G, S21+ 5G, S21 Ultra 5G, S20, S20+, S20 Ultra, Z Fold 2, Z Flip, Z Fold 3 5G, Z Flip 3 5G Fold, Sony Xperia 10 III Lite, Surface Duo, Gemini PDA, the Microsoft Surface Pro X

Should highlight the 365 day package, even better for low data users (sufficient for a year!)

would that have any effect on access to websites? i couldn't use my VPN in china on a chinese sim. i think they also block access to certain websites as well. HK is not like it used to be.
just worth checking out before you buy.

Doesn't make sense why usage would be route through to HK if it's using a local network. But 35GB for $45 CAD that lasts 365 days is a great deal for a parent that cannot tell the difference between 480p youtube compared to 720 or 1080p on their phone.

Does the data reset each month or is this use it until you run out within the time period?

Edit: if it’s the former, then Fido $5/4GB gives you 48GB for $60, although it doesn’t carry over each month. Rather go with Fido than deal with China censorship/surveillance.

Only galaxies sold outside of North America have esim enabled. If you bought your S20, S21 and etc in NA, you don't have esim.

EDIT: Samsung has now added esim support on One UI 4.0 (Android 12). So you may have esim on galaxy s20, S21 and etc devices if you have the latest software update.

True. I was thinking about giving my parent my Oneplus 5t after Pixel 6 comes out but Oneplus 5t doesn't support esim. I will need to get a sim if I want to make use of this.

Routing thru HK in Canada sounds like it'll make everything very slow, it's on the other side of the world, that is a lot of latency.

When I was in China years ago with a HK sim, I can definitely feel the latency having traffic routing thru HK, and the mainland is much closer to HK. I think this is only worth considering if it's not routing thru HK, that should be confirmed first.

Pretty solid deal.

Obviously if you don't value roaming then better to go with the flanker brands.

routing through Hong Kong is a big concern. Freedom in Hong Kong has gone down south in the last 3 years. It's now really part of China. I wouldn't want my traffic to go through Hong Kong for no reason.
