with today's announcement of new ipad air, the 2020 (4th gen) ipad air is gone from apple.ca

was hoping there is a price drop of the older version. found on amazon.ca, which is more expensive (64g) than the new one on apple.ca.

I've been watching the Apple refurb section for months, pretty sure the Air 4th gen has never appeared there (nor any current-model iPad Pro, for that matter). Maybe now it will begin showing up

Wait for the refurb, it'll have a discount because it's a previous gen product in addition to the refurb savings.

Now the iPad Air 5th gen is so much better, not sure if it make sense to buy refurbished Air 4 anymore

just for light general usage like browsing, reading, 5G, pen is pretty much irrelevant to me. the difference is A15 vs A14, which according to some review, is about 10-15% better. of course, if price is pretty much the same, i will go with the 2022 model. but if difference is over 100 bucks (i'm talking about brand new ones from apple store), i probably will go with 2020 model.

Does anyone know where to get good aftermarket cases for the iPad Air?

I have the iPad Air 2 [2014] and I'm not sure if it's 9.7" diagonal is still supported on present-day stands.

Looking for something that swivels, ideally.

this isn't a new feature though, the Air 4 also used the second generation pencil.

64GB is not enough and 256GB pricing is ridiculous.

The same story as any other apple product, ever.

this Air sorta makes the iPad Pro less interesting for its price. Sure the Pro might be worth the extra for the Pro-Motion, FaceID, better speakers, more base storage etc, but the Air is really solid as is.

Really, mostly these iPad updates are super boring. The iPad audience isn't probably screaming for new updates....and the OS is the thing that really holds it back as a general purpose computer.

You should be able to go to an Apple store and ask if they have stock of the older version in stock. Often, there is a cheaper price for the last inventory of devices whenever a new one comes out.

I would just get the new one though, as the discount isn't that much. You get the M1 chip which should give you another 5-6 years before it feels really slow.

Yes, didn't expect they put M1 chip and 8G ram in the Ipad Air, previous rumors has been using the A15 chips. I'v only had 11 M1 pro for 2 months, bought the 11 pro as I think the M1 with 8G ram is good for future proof and longevity, feels like I could have been served as well with the 5th gen ipad air instead to save some money, 120HZ screen is nice but not a necessity and I can get by with 64GB as well.

8GB RAM is a huge upgrade from the old Air unless you love seeing your tabs in Safari reload all the time.

Yeah I agree, M1 and 8GB is awesome deal and the price is $749, which is down from the Air 4's $779.. I could live without the 120Hz considering the savings from the Pro. I don't use the cameras at all so the LIDAR and extra lens is pretty useless. Face Id isn't that compelling either, Basically, the Air doesn't have the stuff I don't need for hundreds of dollars less.

The Air also qualifies for the Edu Promo in the summer which makes it an even better deal (free airpods that you can sell or keep)

Anyway, we ordered a Air 5 in purple to replace my wife's Air 2....which is still ticking from 2014.
