Toonie sized hail in Toronto tonight... my car is afraid. (See the hail fail Lexus)

Living in the city, my car doesn't have a huge suburban garage to hide in... I have a detached garage which is too narrow to get the car into without having like 3 spotters on the way in and the way out and I'd have to move most of the crap in there out to fit the car lengthwise.

After reading about the possibility of huge hail, I am almost embarassed to say, I just got in from bubble wrapping my hood and rear deck with large half inch bubble wrap I had left over from my last move. I have a 3rd generation Lexus GS which has an aluminum hood (and rear deck I believe). I am not sure about the roof but I haven't got enough wrap to cover that hehe. My hood already has two good dings in it just from falling acorns when I had to do street parking last fall... so these weight-saving hoods are easily dented.

Kind of makes me think I should have thought about getting a car cover and some thick foam pads for occasions like this but oh well, what can I do now... nothing really. :)

Is anybody else afraid for their car in Toronto tonight?

Sure, insurance will cover hail damage but my deductible is $500 so I have an interest in trying to protect the thing.

I'm not from Toronto, but if I were that afraid of hail on my vehicle I would take advantage of the discount covered parking options (discounted during the evenings) and park the car in a covered location. In my city you can get covered parking for $5 (less if you look around) overnight provided you're out by 6am.

park in your garage and clear out the junk. get some spotters or put foam or blankets on the wall so you can get in if its really tight. just go slow in parking it.

A blanket won't do anything for a toonie diameter of ice falling at something close to a 100 kph at a piece of aluminum. Anyway, my gargage is just not gonna happen even if I did squeeze the car in there without scratching the sides (with the mirrors folded) I would probably have to try to crawl out of it through the moon roof.

So, I guess I'll just see how this goes... how many times have the forecasts for extreme weather been totally wrong. Snowmageddon 1 and 2 both fails... the fact that I'm fairly close to the lake may temper things in the immediate area too. I also parked the car between my house and the neighbors so it's a bit more protected.

Wish me and my black car luck. Leaving the car parked in a pay garage is a good idea that crossed my mind, I may just do that if things start looking grim.

Hail damage is covered by comprehensive.

But anyway, so far this extreme hail (or any storm at all) is failing to materialize... not even a drop of rain or hint of thunder here yet.

I don't think anything is going to happen. I feel stupid to have gone and wrapped my hood in bubble wrap now... I'll leave it on overnight, just in case, but man... the neighbors must think I'm mad.

The show was supposed to start at like 5 PM.

I though bubble wrapping was exclusive to beige toyotas. Guess I was wrong
