good to know 77" is available, but from west coast, never heard of topchoices. Would love a 77", but settled for the 65" at $1600. Still not sure I would pay double the price for a 77". You could get two 65".

Im with you there, the price gap between 65 to 75(77 in this case) is large!

Did you end up going with a 65 B2 or C2?

I ended up going with B2 and originally was going to test-drive an open box C2 for $400 more, but decided that a little bit more spot brightness wasn't worth it. The other differences weren't important for me. Would rather save the $400 and use it towards my next TV! B2 has been working great for me so far.

Not a C2. $3K is still a big pill to swallow. I’ll stick with my 65” Sony x900h for another year.

Visions has the Sony 77 a80j (2021) at this price too… what would you say between these two

Sony has the Bravia core although the movies you don’t own for life, I don’t know why I’m that concerned

It's a tough call there so close
Sony has slight better image quality
but the LG can get brighter

another thing to note the LG supports FreeSync and also has better input lag

Bravia core sounds awesome until you realize that you get access to the movie streaming for a year and then they cut you off without the ability to even pay for a subscription... at that point you need to use credits which you are only given 5 of with this tv

In my experience, I'm blown away by the out-of-box Sony colour compared to the LG. I've had an 77" a80j for over a year now and it continues to impress. First TV in years I'm not constantly tweaking the colour. I also have an LG 48CX in a PC setup and an older LG 65C7 and they can't compare with the Sony out-of-box colour.

Personally, I like Sony's approach to motion handling better, although I read LG is catching up in more recent models. It's a tough call if you're gaming, which is why I have the LG for the PC.

Rtings seems to give the B2 a slightly better overall score:

For this same price, I’d 100% go with the Sony.
I own a E6 and have bought a B8 (sold) & B9 (considering upgrading).
My dad owns a mid range Sony 4K from 2015. It’s still impressive. I just prefer Sony for upscaling.

If you don’t have a 4K tv yet, a 77” 4K OLED (with 2.1) for this price should be a no brainer. A projector around this price (the best of BenQ, or Epson) is also a great option.

If only these recent OLED’s still had passive 3-D. You’d have everything needed. Until 6k/8k.
Rtings prefers LG OLED based on how cheap they are in comparison.
The Sony would definitely be better. Especially if you don’t want to use a ISF calibration expert, or try to figure out Spears & Munsil UHD.
BenQ 4K projector’s have better calibration than LG OLED.

If gaming, LG OLED is typically preferred as it often has more 2.1 inputs. If movies r the priority, then look at the Sony OLED due to its better processing.

But you’ll only really need 3 (PC, Xbox and PS5, and whatever comes after).

Processor works out better. In most cases.

Arc/e-arc typically takes 1 of 2 hdmi 2.1. 1 left for either Xbox Series X, PC or PS5. If u have an AVR with multiple hdmi 2.1, it doesnt matter.

Or, just get a HDMI 2.1 switch (when available, and great).

Still can’t really beat the processor.
In most cases that Sony is still going to be the best, since there’s a few alternatives for the LG’s advantages.

Visions has the 77" B2 for $3798. If you can get a price match (15% of difference), that should work out to about $2880.

Thoughts on whether it's worth it to jump in at that price, or to wait for better offerings later in the year for an OLED this size?

Damn, I paid $3k for my 65" LG C7 when it was released and it's still going strong.

Thanks OP, I may have to consider moving up in size.

Does the FreeSync make a big difference when gaming FPS games?
