Toronto to Australia

I'm planning to make a 3 week lone trip to Australia in May.

If anyone has been and would gladly like offer some travel tips, advice and/or any other misc comments that you think would be helpful to consider.

Thanks =)

Pointers...

Flights in Australia are VERY VERY cheap, and easy to book/board. They dont even check your tickets

Unlock your cell phone and get a sim card with data when you land, You will need to take pics of Your Credit Card + Passport and email it directly to the phone company... Can take 1-2 days, Best to try to activate it in the airport as there is Free Wifi, The rest of the free wifi in hotels and so on is awful

I believe 5gb of data only costed 30 dollars? Which will never ever expire. I only got this done 1/2 way through my trip and was struggling for wifi the 1st 1/2

If you can listen to some Australian Radio on the TuneInRadio App, to try and get the hang of the accent...

Expect everything to cost a bit more

If you have any other questions send a pm ill try to answer i was there once for 3 weeks aswell.

O if you can get a direct flight... To La, then La to Australia... Quantas is by far the best airline for a flight of that legnth

Find an ALDI store... get the $5 SIM Card which comes preloaded with $5 Credit located at the CASH.
You will need to call them to validate you are a legit person (either using a passport or a personal Credit Card where they will charge a minimal amount in AUD and ask you to call back with that amount - so make sure you can access your CC online to check the amount in AUD (This is important because in my case, I missed the original AUD when i checked online ... but only found out later that I was able to access the original AUD amount but on my statement it showed the charge as CAD )

After you are registered, the $5 can be used right way as calls or data... I bought another 3GB for $30 valid for 30 days ..which was plenty as long as you do not do a lot of streaming.

Store locater and plans

if you are going to drive there... make sure you respect the speed limit. From what I understand they are pretty strict and lots of cameras ( red light and speed cams )... oh of course they drive on the left :)

Otherwise, public transport is great and punctual... easy access to wide range of beaches but weather may be a bit cool .

If you are having stop overs in US, make sure you have enough time to go through security checks in US... a minimum 2 -3 hrs .... Sometimes, the search engines will give you cheaper fligths with 1 hr or less in LA or NY... which can be very risky since you sometimes have to change gates which can be far apart ...
