Toronto-based Psychotherapist recommendation

Mood Disorders Association of Ontario offer 8 free counselling sessions, as well as 8 free peer support sessions, so this might be a good place to start.

It's difficult to tell who is good because a lot of it depends on the connection you build with your therapist and how you approach the treatment. Just like meeting a stranger on the street, you may like them or not and what you think about them will change over time. And honestly, I think it'd be a disservice to provide a recommendation because it deprives you of the opportunity to experience the journey of learning more about yourself.

Ask yourself (or better yet, write it down): what is it you need help with? What is it that you hope they can help with (that you can't help yourself with)? What qualities, skills, and experience are you looking for in a therapist? What are your goals with a therapist (ie resolve the pressing issue; learning more about the self through introspection/insight)? Will you track the progress of reaching your goals? The therapist may be in a better position to help you if they learn these things about you.

There are a wide range of therapists: man vs woman; young vs old; qualified vs qualifying; race; ability to speak a particular language or intuitively understand your background/culture; their experience working with people with similar issues.

IIRC from a few months ago, qualified psychotherapists are $100-180 per 50-55 minute sessions. Qualifying psychotherapists are $70-100. I think social workers are even less. Book a free 30 minute consultation to learn more about them.
