Every night I see peeps racing on Weston road going northbound towards Blackcreek.
Hopefully there is a camera on this stretch.

This is fine, as long as they aren't in trappy areas, like a sudden speed change, and only give tickets for over 10-15kph

These people doing 100kph+ in a school zone though... cops should least hand deliver the ticket and give them a talking to. Certainly make note of their plates in the system for future stops.

I think the penalties for crazy speeding are just too soft. Who the heck in their right mind drives 100 km/h over in a 30 km/h and 40 km/h traffic zones. People driving at those insane speeds in school areas should get their vehicle impounded for 6 months and a license suspension for 2 years. Heck even a brief stay in jail to me is not considered over the top. We are not talking about going 10 - 20 km/h over the limit thinking that it was a 50 km/h zone. Hopefully, there were no injuries or worse as a result.

What worries me is that there will be no leeway on speed whatsoever. It mentions that it will ticket someone going "1 to 19" kilometres over, at a rate of $5 per km. It also mentions a $125 "victim surcharge", and a $5 "court costs" fee, so someone going, say, 42km in a 40 zone could be facing a $140 ticket.

Agreed. This also won't do anything for all the dangerous drivers that don't speed, like all those people who jump over into opposing lanes of traffic to make left turns.

If they want to put in sensors that dole out punishment based on one criteria alone, install noise meters and connect them to spike strips in the road. There are far too many small-dicked scumbags revving their engines with loud exhausts in residential areas all day and night.

This will be a cash grab for municipalities. $100+ victim surcharge like this is going to any victims. I am all for safer roads but it seems like the police have abdicated their responsibility but not their budgets. And since these cameras do not impact demerit points, it will not impact behavior a whole lot.

I honestly wish they would bring it back here in Vancouver. Idiots here have no regard for speed limits. They think the highway passing rules still apply in town.

Hey, at least it’s a voluntary “tax”...
