I don't live in Toronto but I assume that you would delay payment longest and thus maximize HISA interest by paying in 2 installments?? Can anyone confirm this?

Anyone know what happens if you dont pay property tax in toronto ? or if you pay late ?

I feel the property tax is too high in Toronto. We already had to pay a ton in land transfer taxes and other taxes when buying.

For the average home owner, its not worth it unless your property tax bills is very high...

lets assume....
Avg HISA Interest rate 2%
Avg property tax bill $3000 annual

that would come to around $5 monthly HISA interest.... even if you delayed it to the maximum...

I have a feeling that Toronto will be doing what Vancouver has been doing in a very short time as I am surprised they haven't done it already. Like most large cities in North America, especially those dominated by a certain kind of politics, property taxes have been rising at astronomical rates and are being used as a sure-fire way for governments to EXTRACT money out of taxpayers. Vancouver had close to a 10% increase in property taxes just this year on already high property taxes. And this is after many substantial YOY increases over the past several years. You might want to buckle your seat belt.

It seems part of some kind of repeatable plan. First they tell you your city is the best place in the world to live. Then they boost real estate and build lots of lots of condos. Then they promote AirBnB and Uber and make everyone think their city is really exceptional. And then when everyone is totally invested, they start to crank the taxes while your services suffer so that they can continue to expand City Hall with more people, more raises and working on more things that have nothing to do with running the basic services of a city.

I personally like 11, and pay it off along with the rest of my monthly bills.

Do any other cities round their property tax to the millionth (6 decimal places)?

Ha, ha. Torontonians are quite lucky that your taxes have not increased much yet. Hopefully your City Council and staff won't start cranking the mill rate on you. We have been hearing the argument you mention in Vancouver for quite some time as taxes keep shooting higher.

Wow, interesting how similar the psychology of people who live in both cities are. Now that Vancouver real estate is dropping, it is interesting to see how many people showed up at City Hall to complain about the 8.3% property tax increase that was being implemented this year. I have a feeling that the people who make these decisions are completely disconnected from the real world as their wages, raises, benefits and job security are completely disconnected from the real world.

I've been paying my Toronto Hydro electricity and Enbridge gas bills through the Canadian Tire Triangle MasterCard for a while now. I didn't know you can pay City of Toronto property taxes on the Triangle card too. Is this something new? How long has this been available for?

Not sure, all I know is that it's there now. Last year I think was last I checked and it was not an option to pay, so they must have added it to payee list somewhat recently.

When you're logged into your Triangle/CTFS mastercard account, just go to "Payments" and then "Pay Bills" to set up payees and do the payments.

Very interested in paying the Tax with my CT/MC...questions/concerns are, currently I am already in their PTP program (11 payments auto draw from my Bank Acct)...
1) If I start to use CT/MC to pay my tax, will they kicks me out of the PTP completely ? if not ...
2) what if my CT/MC payment is scheduled one-week BEFORE its due, will the PTP smart enough to simply ignore my current month pull but PTP still remain active?
3) I assumed CT/MC PayTM can be scheduled future payments since out tax bill has all the Amount/Date for each payment in schedule at the beginning of each year
4) I really wanted to utilize PayTM to earn some rebates on CT/MC but don't wanted to loss my PTP setup if possible.

Thanks and Please share your tips and suggestions..
