Looks to me our city councils have way too much time on their hands and somebody eventually thought of this great idea. Smiling Face With Open Mouth And Smiling Eyes
i support it..because i almost got ran over twice this past year by people turning left and gunning it/not looking at pedestrians crossing the street. I'm always paranoid when i cross the street now especially cars that accelerate turning left and i feel like i'm playing frogger eventhough i have the right of way. people get too tunnel visioned turning left to take advantage of an opening or a yellow light and accelerating.

doesn't help i live in the burbs where people don't think pedestrians exist lol

... now they really have to do some enforcement on the cyclists next. Riding on the sidewalks and not getting off their bikes when crossing the intersections.

Sidewalks are always empty. Let them cycle there. They should instead do a blitz on those who don't stop at red lights or stop signs.

do think about the seniors walking on the sidewalks. I noticed most of the cyclists riding on sidewalks did not care much of the pedestrians, they are the ones that needed to give ways to the cyclists, instead the other way around. LOL.

Vehicles like the Ford Raptor may get more popular so drivers can take the bumps at 60km/h and not spill their coffee.

Let me gues: ----> The pilot will be a total success and soon you will see these bumps everywhere.

Eventually, there will be a pilot for double-bumps, triple-bumps, etc. etc. etc.

Bad during winter time when snow and ice accumulates on the speed bumps.

Exactly. And if the bump is hidden by snow, a pedestrian crossing the street may trip and fall.

The other hazard is turning driver could get t-boned by oncoming car(s) as turning driver may slow down or stop because of the speed bumps .

Another case scenario is the first turning driver is followed by another turning driver, without any indication, the first one decides to stop/slow down and now, the following turning driver is now in ‘no man’s land’ with fast traffic coming through, the end result, potential hard braking by the oncoming drivers which could lead to accident in the making .

more speed bumps! to slow down incoming traffic from hitting the left turner (who is slowing down for their speed bump)

This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. Which absolute clown thought this up? So now when you're trying to make a left turn and things are happening like the light is changing, a car(s) is coming at you, you have to slow down...to a crawl, in order to make the turn. Just going to make left turning lines much longer, increase traffic and congestion, and likely increase accidents.

What the actual you know what are they thinking? This is what happens when people get high on the ol' reefer and start making laws.

This is not the way to get shitheads that can't drive and can't look where they're going (i.e. the crosswalk where pedestrians are) to drive more safely. To do that you have to remove said shitheads from behind the wheel.

However that all said the most odd part about this is that pothead standing smiling in front of the speed bumps...how does that placement even slow someone making a left turn by having to go over them? Because you don't. The proper line to make a left turn on a public road (i.e. in order to stay in your lane) will completely go around both speed bumps. So yeah I guess they were high. Only idiots that make turns improperly (starting to turn way too early to make the lane they need to be in) will get thwarted by those speed bumps.

Oh wait a minute, maybe it's a genius that put the speed bumps there! They will only slow down the drivers that suck at driving to begin with!

You're not supposed to hit the speed bump; it's for drivers who take the racing line when making left turns.

I think a big reason why there are more pedestrian incidents is the thick A pillar in modern cars.

Probably the same way they dealt with the more idiotic Markham traffic calming parts...smash them.

That actually makes me glad for these speed bumps.

So many times while I approach a Red light/stop sign, I sometimes run onto drivers taking a racing line and cutting in my lane. At least these speed bump forces them to turn wide.

If people arent looking and slowing for pedestrians, why would they look and slow for a speed bump which is probably below their immediate view?
