Toy Box Soft Closer Help

We have a toy box for my kids that my parents got from a well known children's store and from day one the soft closer has been terrible. The range of motion was too small and prevented you from opening the lid all the way. Plus it only holds the lid open 4 inches which is useless.

Just wondering if someone can recommend a different style that will keep the lid open as well as act as a soft closer?

Thanks

I wonder if you can use those struts you find for a car hood or trunk.

i hate those toy box soft closers, we had them break on us and now the lid of the box slams shut instead of closing softly, and its a hazard my children could hit their head on it or get their fingers squished
