[Toys R Us] TRU: Magic: The Gathering Trading Cards - 30% OFF...

Hi there,

If you collect Magic: The Gathering Trading Cards, Toys R Us is having all the sets at 30% OFF, including the big boxes, single packs, etc. It's in-store only, bonus sale that isn't in the flyer, selection varies per store. Clearance are not included. It ends July 29, no raincheck.

If the signs are not up, just price check. It should all ends in 95.

Just so people know, this isn't really a deal. Even with 30% off, the products are still over MSRP.

Hi there,

MSRP in US dollar or Canadian?

Ya oftentimes you can still get MTG from gaming stores for less, but at 30% off you do find some nice gems. I got the last round of Commander decks for like $25 each after the various discounts and sales TRU had. So I'll swing by the old store today and see if anything worth grabbing. Sometimes you get lucky ;)

This is true in most cases, but like LoANeal mentioned, you can snap up some boxed products that hobby shops tend to price above MSRP because the contents are worth more than the sticker price.

I'd cop some Commander decks at 30% off. Too bad there isn't really a TRU that stocks MTG close by.

That one is tricky. You can check MTG's website but honestly it's more personal knowledge. Booster packs at game stores can range from $4 CAD (which is proper) to about $5 CAD (when they wanna rip you off). Boxed product changes with the type, but honestly Commander decks usually run between $40-$45 so if you can get em for $30.00 or under you're set. Really cost out booster packs from things like Fat Packs and if you hit under $4.00 a pack after tax you got a decent price. I've seen some Shadows over Innistrad packs hit like $3.00 at TRU's last sale, just really don't like the set xD

Anyone know if you can combine with the 15% off store-wide?

See that right there is a very important question. I will see if I can't get you an answer in 4 hours when I go there

Why bother proxy at all when Cockatrice exists? Way easier less effort and you save trees!

If I'm honest I haven't actually spent money on MTG in about 2 years, Most times they pay for themselves, usually pull some super rare card and sell it back to the store for the next set xD

Hi there,

Uh, the 15% only applies to regular price items only (ends with a 9). :p

Yes, I used to do that when I had a MTG group made up of rich kids. They went out and bought 2 boxes of like 40 or whatever number of boosters are in there. I couldn't keep up, and their decks were so good, so besides 1 deck thatt I built with money, all my other decks were proxies...

Then I quit MTG because I realized it was a time and money sink... and some ppl in my MTG group treated me like a peasant, throwing their leftover cards at me like throwing food for a dog...

I'm probably holding a lot of resentment still tbh lololol

I used to collect and had/have all the P9 and many errors/ test prints (summer).

It was a good investment vehicle if anything, as values continue to surge for the older and some of the newer stuff that has rotated into extended scene. I remember playing Mirrodin and seeing Chalice of the Void being worth $10, and peaking at like $20, now that frikken thing is $70!? Same with Goyf... went from $30 when I was playing to some rediculous amount north of $100 each?! Same with Dual Lands / Unhinged foil lands etc

I regret dumping most of my p9 back then, but I needed the money then.... if not it would have provided a tidy 200% return on investment in a matter of a few years.

Nice, go for it (obviously weigh the number of money cards in the set) : eg 8th has Ensnaring Bridge, Blood Moon, Bribery, Grave Pact

wait... 1994?! that's like Revised/Ice Age / Mirage era... grab them!
