Tp link 1900ac help needed

I recently bought a tplink 1900ac router. I used their guide on youtube to set it up as an access point. It seems to work sporadically though, dropping lots. I have a shaw router in the basement and the new router in my bedroom.

It broadcasts it's wifi signal all the time but often you can't connect or when you do there is no internet. It's the version 2 of the router. I'm not up to date on anything router and font know what the lingo means, at all, si please dumb it down.
