Transfer Marriott Point to Aeroplan 35% bonus (Great deal for Amex Cobalt), Mini Aeroplan Guide in OP, Expire June 26
- Deal Link:
This time, offer is public, not targetted.
For best results, convert in 60k marriott point chunks:
60k marriott to
25000 aeroplan + 35% bonus = 33750 aeroplan
Give a conservative estimate:
value marriott at 0.8c
60k marriott is ~ $480
value aeroplan at 1.4c
33750 aeroplan is ~ $472.5
So you wouldn't come out behind.
But, aeroplan can be worth a lot more in many scenarios.
Note: If you don't convert in 60k chunks, you still get 35%, but it's a worse deal.
30000 Marriott ~$240
13500 Aeroplan ~$189
An additional note for amex cobalt cardholders:
This is most likely the best way to redeem MR select.
Convert 50k MR select to 60k marriott, then to 33750 aeroplan
50k MR select valued at $500
33750 aeroplan at 1.4c is $472.5
but aeroplan has much higher potential for value.
Note that MR (from gold plat etc.) can transfer to aeroplan 1 to 1.
Never transfer MR to bonvoy then to aeroplan, you lose a lot.
Only transfer MR-S (from cobalt) to bonvoy then to aeroplan.
Combining Marriott/Aeroplan Points:
As far as data points suggest, including my own data point, one can transfer Marriott points from different Marriott accounts, into the same Aeroplan account.
This helps in pooling multiple Marriott points into 1 aeroplan account.
Points will show up in the aeroplan account after about 2 days after transfer.
The 35% bonus will show up in a couple of weeks, as per terms in the link.
(Note that one is not really allowed to transfer Aeroplan miles between Aeroplan accounts.)
Alternatively, one can also transfer Marriott points between different Marriott Accounts.
This helps in pooling multiple Marriott points into 1 account, to meet the 60k chunk value transfer.
Data points suggest that this transfer between Marriott Accounts takes less than 1 day.
You would need to give the account information of both accounts, including member number, name, address, email address.Share your points
Now you can share your points with any other member.
Transfer 1,000 points or more—up to a maximum of 100,000 points per year.
Just contact Member Support at (801) 468-4000 to start sharing.
The transfer is free, in increments of 1000 points.
A nice rep may boost your points up to a multiple of 1000, but YMMV.
Mini Aeroplan Guide:
As long as you fly economy, you have a wide selection of seats from star alliance, with united being one of the best carriers for using aeroplan miles.
You just need to search flights on aeroplan.com, like you would search flights on any other site.
Furthermore, aeroplan gets its value mainly from 2 things:
1. cost (number of miles needed for ticket) is proportional to distance to destination (not cash prices)
2. stopovers: you can travel A -> B -> C -> D ->A, for the same amount of miles, as a standard roundtrip ticket A -> C ->A
(cash prices for a 4 leg trip would typically be charged individually for each leg.)
After knowing these 2 main ideas, it's easy to get value out of aeroplan:
1. Given the same geographical region, you get higher value by buying aeroplan tickets for destinations with high cash fares.
For example: Canada to Asia
Japan as a destination, is more expensive than most destinations in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan.
But aeroplan still charges flat 75k aeroplan points for Japan as destination.
2. After you have set destination, you can visit 3 places in the same geographical region, for the same cost.
For the same 75k aeroplan points, you can get: A -> Japan -> China -> Hong Kong -> A
Technically, for A -> B -> C -> D -> A, B and D could also be "between" A and C, and it is still allowed.
