Transition between smooth and popcorn ceiling

Our kitchen and dinette areas are smooth and family room connected to them is popcorn ceiling as shown on photo. The family room is not separate by anything like columns or ceiling partition but just one flat ceiling with two different finishes. This's our first house and we didn't anything. Otherwise, we would have paid extra to have all smooth ceiling. Now I wonder what are the options to make this transition looks nicer
other than making the family room smooth ceiling as well, that we understand it will be a mess and we need to move and cover all furniture below. Thanks for any advice.

Remove the popcorn ceiling would be best. If it hasn't been painted, it should be pretty easy. Just need to spray it with some water to soften it then scrape it off. Some sanding and touch-up and you're golden.
