Travelling from Toronto Pearson to Peterborough

Is there a kind soul to share with me the ways to efficiently travel from Pearson airport to Peterborough?

Ive found an option to rent a car with a different return location, but It might be difficult to drive thru toronto area?

Another option is to just buy a GO ticket with 3 transfers which takes 3,4 hours. But may be difficult with a luggage.

Any insight will help.

Rent a car.
And head to Hwy 407 (the electronic toll road * )
Things are pretty straight forward after that
Hwy 407 East to Hwy 115 / 7 North

Public transit from Mississauga to Peterborough is gonna not only be long and arduous
It’s gonna be a PITA and Royaly SUCK!

* Used to be renting a car and Hwy 407 was problematic
But evidently great strides have been made in how renters can do this
Hopefully someone else local to TO / GTA will comment
Tolls are pricey tho … depending on day of week / time of day could cost you $ 50 one way

You could look into private transfers, ranging from limos/airport cars (expensive... though one way car rentals aren't cheap either) to Kijiji rideshares (if you're comfortable with that).

Public transit would be my absolutely last choice for this.

Crap, i was really leaning more on taking transit with a fare of 24$ so i dont have to worry about driving. Ive seen shuttles, century and benson and they are pricey to around 150 plus 15 and tips, which was my last resort.

Thanks for the input. Ive heard tolls have admin fees with rentals though so it is best to avoid. All responses lead to NOT taking transit but i was really already planning on buying a GO ticket for 24$... I thought it would be the least hassle to just sit in the bus.

I think it be looking at $200 if i were to shuttle.

If i were to rent a car, i could use some aeroplan points and just end up paying for gas, but im a bit worried about driving thru a new, busy place coming from SK.

If i were to transit, i just need to transfer once in yonge st. And maybe wait for 1 hr at oshwa terminal. It takes 5 hours but really have nothing to worry about vs. driving...

If you are willing to spend $200, i think many people is willing to do it and make a trip for you.

The point is are you comfortable having a stranger picking you and and drop off at your destination. I haven't check uber or lyft to see how much from Pearson to Peterboroug and uber and lyft cannot pick up at airport, so you will have to go to somewhere outside of airport first, then take a uber/lyft

If I have a friend or someone I kinda know, I wouldn't mind doing it to make some spare money (if I have the time to do so)

Depends on the arrival day and time. If you can avoid rush hour, it will be ok ( eastbound rush hour = M-F 2-7PM)

I mean if you really don't mind spending hours and hours on commuter transit, GO is still an option. I think just not a pleasant one for most people.

I did check uber lyft and they charge around 150, approx same as a shuttle. So uber is not ideal esp you have to get another ride out with luggage.

Your greatest hurdle is distance … it’s about 150 Kms from Pearson in Mississauga (the burbs) to Peterborough … which truly is way out in the countryside

It’s a case of most solutions (Pre Covid) for public transit would mean getting from the Airport to downtown (easier now that they have the UP Express Train) … then getting yourself to the bus depot for the next Greyhound / Voyageur type bus out to rural Ontario

I think since Covid … a lot of these bus routes have been canned
Some even permanently

A car & driver (car hire) from the airport ain’t gonna be cheap … and a car rental gives you the most flexibility … but ya you’d have to check on the current rules regarding eTolls on the 407

Airport to the 407 is easy enough … just straight North up the 427.

Lol, at least it isn’t the 401 … that’s the heart attack for anyone not familiar with Toronto … or driving it for the first time

The 401 is FREE … but the 407 is worth every penny to BYPASS the craziness!

I stopped driving the 401 across the city about 10 years ago … couldn’t handle the insanity any more (the speed, the wrecks, the trucks, the people who get their Drivers Licenses out of Cracker Jack Boxes )

Nope. I’ll pay whatever it costs to cruise along without the craziness on the by comparison empty 407

407etr would be the only option to avoid 401 EB traffic on a Friday PM.

The transit option looks like
UP express to Union,
Go train Union to Oshawa
Go Bus 88 Oshawa to Peterbrough

How about taking Go bus to Richmond Hill Station, you are allow to have luggage on Airport Go Bus and they use 407, so it will be quick.
Then from Richmond Hill station, take uber and lyft to Peterborough.

Just throwing idea, don't bite if that doesn't work for any reason I haven't thought about. Smiling Face With Open Mouth

I appreciate your detailed response. :)

I would assume that the itinerary the GO bus gives online would be accurate, so no worries on routes not exisiting.

The directions is also not so much a worry because i have gps. Im just not sure how it will go driving through the busy roads of TO, i dont know what to expect. I could drive 401 and keep at the slow right lane i guess if i end up renting.

Thanks. Tried your suggestion, 8$ to richmond hill, then 130 using uber. Essentialy the same as taking the shuttle with much less hassle?

Lol, sure if you want to end up as roadkill

401 … drive in one of the regular middle lanes.

Not the exit / merge lanes (2 to the right) … or the collector lanes (1 to the left) … and express lanes that travel along on the left with crossovers every few exits

I tell you … if you drive take the 427 north to the 407

Besides your GPS … you can even use GOOGLE MAPS and street view to move the little yellow man thru the route … to visualize / become more familiar

I do this often when I am heading somewhere I don’t know the roads so well

Yeah by gps i mean google maps. Ive also seen the 360 on some roads. Im worried of taking toll lanes because the rental will bill me 100 maybe even more. But thanks for the hint on taking the mid lane.
